Talking CCL Motherboard Bundles, Advice please

I'm gonna be purchasing one of these pre-put together Systems, and I'm looking to you for advice on what is best for a Gaming Computer, I was thinking of buying the Intel Core 2 Quad Core bundle or a Duo, what is better for gaming?

Motherboard Bundles from CCL - Awarded Best Online Retailer 2007 & 2006 for laptops, desktops and computer hardware

Also should I install Vista or XP on it?

XP Pro is older, so has less bugs but I think it also does not support dx10.

Vista is also getting games designed for Vista only, meaning that unless you have Vista it won't run them...

I'd say if you get Vista stick with Basic +SP1 upgrade. It's around £51.57 at the moment on scan (today only offer) which should allow you some of the benefits of Vista OS without the more irritating aspects of it (games and some pointless software)

Of course.. if you want it retail, triple the price, but it's your choice.

XP is good, but I don't really like it.

Of course: if you've got a slower system (less than 1-2gb RAM in this case, as you're not suggesting single core CPU) then stick with XP as Vista is more demanding.

Not sure about the systems though, as I've not had much experience with anything newer than a P3 and 384mb RAM (win 98 fyi) so I'm a little Out of Date with hardware 'n' stuff

XP is far better for gaming performance at the moment. Many games run far better in XP than Vista. However there will be more Vista exclusive games in the future probably - Alan Wake supposedly being one of them.Crysis was meant to be one of them too ,so this maybe a moot point for this year at least. . Also Vista will be probably be supported for longer too.

A faster dual core is better for most games at the moment. If you intend to keep your system for a few years however a quad core will be probably a better investment even if it is slightly slower than the equivalently price dual cores at present. Future games will make better use of quad cores as they will become more common just as dual cores have done when compared to single cored processors.

Seems to me that the best thing to do is get a decent dual core now, with an up-to-date motherboard. You can throw a quad at it when it becomes necessary.

    1. Thanks for the input
    2. Most Vista-Only games can usually be cracked to run on Windows XP (Halo 2 etc.)
    3. I have a XFX XXX 7600GT atm so DirectX 10, I'm not to bothered about

So I think I'll stick with XP.

    And everyone else thanks!!!

I bought this in the end:
Buy High End Intel Motherboard Bundle MBB1017 from CCL - Online Retailer of the Year 2007 & 2006 for laptops, desktops and computer hardware

Also the 3-year Warranty is a BONUS
