    ADVICE - NorthQ NQ-3550 WaterChill Kit S478 & AMD S754/939/940

    Hello All,

I am thinking of going water cooling and do not know that much about it; therefore that is why I am looking for a kit. I will be getting a q6600 and a DFI X48 LT and will be looking to oc the Q6600 to up to 3.6ghz, and water cool the northbridge. I can not seem to find any reviews of the above kit and was wondering if anyone could shed some light on it please.

All the NorthQ stuff looks (and i think probably is) a little 'el cheapo'..

If you go the WC route then go for a good brand as the cheaper stuff doesnt outperform good air cooling.

I wouldn't buy a kit, get the parts separate. You will get more for your money. We can happily help you about what to buy

Possibly the only kits that I would look at would be the Swiftech Compact 120 or 220 (depends on radiator size), and even then I would rather build a system myself.

For a good performing system you are going to be looking in the region of £150+ probably more likely £200 so be sure its what you want to do as the are some pretty amazing air coolers to be had for a fraction of the price which would keep a Q6600 cool when overclocked, Thermalright Ultima 90, Ultra 120 extreme and the Scythe Ninja and Mine spring to mind straight away.

The only thing is that I want to internally mount it and that restricts me to only small 120mm rads e.g....

Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK

because I have a Coolermaster Centurion 530 case. I know its a tall order.

    Can anyone spec me a full system for a q6600 & X48 chipset for around £115. I have AS5 and a 120mm fan.

(Yey I can post links now lol)

    Re: ADVICE - NorthQ NQ-3550 WaterChill Kit S478 & AMD S754/939/940

    Reservoir - Swiftech Microres £13.50
    Pump - Laing DDC1+ 12v Ultra (18W) £49
CPU - Swiftech Apogee GT Extreme £30
    NB - Swiftech MCW30 £16.50
    Radiator - Thermochill PA120 £44 or Swiftech MCR120QPK £22.50 or Swiftech MCR120-QP-RES (Rad and Res in 1) £30

    Piping - 3/8" £3 per metre
Fittings Only needed for Thermochill Rad ~£6 you would need 2x 3/8" barbs and 2x 3/8 to 1/4 thread reducers.

    Totals
    Thermochill Rad £147
    Swiftech Rad £128
Swiftech Rad with Inc Res £121

    All prices from Specialtech.co.uk

The Thermochill Rad is the best 120mm rad you can buy but with an overclocked Q6600 and a northbridge going to it I'm not sure what sort of temps you should expect. If you could mod your case to except a 220mm rad you would be better served and the price increase is only ~£5. If you have the spare cash then metal fittings rather than the plastic supplied with the Swiftech gear would be better but its not the end of the world. You can also get different aftermarket tops for the pump which increase performance but on your budget (they cost about £15 plus fittings) they may be an expense to far.

Edit: Oh you will need some distilled or de-ionised water to fill the loop shouldn't be too expensive and some biocide to stop algae growing in the loop.

Its impossible to fit a 240 rad in my case and I don't want to have to spend another £100 on a good new one. Im also not going to put my GPU in the loop in the future as my Glacier fan does a great job!

I will get some feser blue cooliant for it. I looked this morning and came up with the following:

    # XSPC Delta V2 CPU Block (£28.99)
    # XSPC Delta Chipset Block (£18.99)
    # 12v DCC Laing DDC Ultra 18w with XSPC Top (£57.99)
    # XSPC RS120 Rad (£17.99)
    # XSPC 1 Bay Res (£19.99)
    # Feser Coolant (£8ish)
    # 3/8 Tubing (£4ish)
    # All 10/8mm compression fittings (they look the easiest)
    # Springz Anti Kink stuff (£2ish)

£150ish - after 10% discount and free delivery from Water Cooling UK

Which would be better, Swiftech or XSPC? I have read good things about them both.

If air is doing a great job on ur GPU why don't you go for air for the CPU?

I'd personally go for a Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme as you get to chose your fan and can even mount a second fan if you so wish! But I've also heard good things about the ZEROtherm NV120 Premium!

I'd personally go for a Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme as you get to chose your fan and can even mount a second fan if you so wish! But I've also heard good things about the ZEROtherm NV120 Premium!
I want to eliminate the noise of the CPU fan and NB fan while overclocking. Its getting towards summer and I don't want my PC to fry

You can only cool as much as the ambient temperature allows you to! As you're only going to be using a 120mm radiator then I can't see how this will be any better than a supercooler as recommended in this thread already [assuming that your case is well ventilated]!

You're obviously not worried about the GPU fan noise, so I doubt that the NB fan noise is an issue either?

I will get some feser blue cooliant for it. I looked this morning and came up with the following:

    # XSPC Delta V2 CPU Block (£28.99)
    # XSPC Delta Chipset Block (£18.99)
    # 12v DCC Laing DDC Ultra 18w with XSPC Top (£57.99)
    # XSPC RS120 Rad (£17.99)
    # XSPC 1 Bay Res (£19.99)
    # Feser Coolant (£8ish)
    # 3/8 Tubing (£4ish)
    # All 10/8mm compression fittings (they look the easiest)
    # Springz Anti Kink stuff (£2ish)

£150ish - after 10% discount and free delivery from Water Cooling UK

Which would be better, Swiftech or XSPC? I have read good things about them both.
I would go with Swiftech over XSPC and you can't use 10/8mm fittings on 3/8" tubing as the dimensions would be all wrong you will need to get 10mm external 8mm internal tubing. I would also go for the Thermochill Rad (if it will fit) over the XSPC, but I have to agree with others that a good air cooler would probably serve you better a single 120mm Rad is only good for ~150W of heat removal and to achieve that you will need to be pushing a lot of air so it wont be quiet.

If it was me I would be looking at getting a Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme or Ultima 90 with a quiet 120mm fan and replace your northbridge cooler if needed with a thermalright HR-05 IFX with a quiet 80mm fan will perform brilliantly. I wont tell you not to watercool as its completely up to you but I think you may be disappointed with the performance you will achieve with a single 120mm rad especially for the cost involved.
