HD upgrade for a acer 8202 laptop
Hi i am looking to upgrade my HD inside my laptop and was wondering how easy or hard it is to do so? do i simply unscrew the bottom of my lappy where the current hd is and just disconnect the hd out and put the new one in? do i need to do any sort of special format or any aditional things in the bios or would it auto detect it straight away like desktop pc's?
what do you guys think of this hdd? Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK
is it quiet, fast and low in temp? im looking for at least a 250gb hdd.
Also, whats the difference between the 5400rpm and the 7200rpm? is the 7200rpm much faster?
Re: HD upgrade for a acer 8202 laptop
If it's an easy access hard drive which it sounds like it is, then it is as easy as popping the old one out and then new one in. They are normally in some sort of small caddy but it won't be difficult to unscrew that.
I prefer western digital for hard drives so I would have this

but im sure the samsung would be fine.
Theres a big of difference in the two hard drive speeds much like there is in desktop drives but 5400rpm drives aren't bad by any means.
Re: HD upgrade for a acer 8202 laptop
yea its hosed inside some sort of caddie. at first i thought it was the wireless internet card device there but a quick glance at my manual pointed me to teh fact that its the hdd in it proected with some sort of anti vibrate mechanism caddie inside that according to my manual is secured with screws.
in regards to the 7200rpm i was abit sceptical because according to this link 2.5" Hard Drive Charts | Tom's Hardware some 5400rpm are actualy faster then the 7200
Re: HD upgrade for a acer 8202 laptop
I'm pretty sure 7200 RPM arent fitted to many laptops because they drain the battery faster then there slower counterparts.
Re: HD upgrade for a acer 8202 laptop
ahh i see. can anybody else confirm this? if true i will stick with a 5400rpm. i dont want to drain my battery even more and judging by toms hardware link i posted above, it seems some 5400rpm are quit fast
Re: HD upgrade for a acer 8202 laptop
oops meant there is a bit of a difference not a big difference lol
I've got two similar xps M1330's one with a 7200rpm and one with the 5400rpm and it is a bit quicker in certain respects but not massively, and you're right some of the biggers 5400rpm will be quicker than smaller 7200rpm's certainly.
