    Question Agp 4x

Should any AGP 8X card work in an AGP 4X motherboard?

    Re: Agp 4x

Most AGP8x cards should work in an AGP4X slot but obviosly only at the lower speed...

8x cards are backwards compatible with 4x motherboards.

    Re: Agp 4x

Yes obviously at the lower speed! It's an upgrade for a friend who has bought a new monitor that needs more than an MX440 64Mb! I've got an old ATI 9600 Pro to try!

    Re: Agp 4x

Oops, forgott this bit! I tried an old GeForce 5400 AGP 8X but that didn't work; but I'm guessing that the card may have been damaged.

    Re: Agp 4x

See this thread - there's a chap using the card you mention in a AGP 4X slot with no problems.
