    Question Q9450?

Hi, does anyone know where I can find a Q9450 in the Uk? Everywhere I look it is sold out, not to mention that overclockers.co.uk have a price of nearly 300 quid for the OEM, even though it's out of stock..

Also, is the Q9450 really worth the extra 100 quid compared to the q6600? I want a quad because I'm not going to be upgrading for at least 2 years. I know 45nm does more per clock than 65nm but is the difference that much?

    Re: Q9450?

I doubt you would notice any difference between the two clock for clock. Stick the q6600 at 3.0GHz or more and it's going to last longer than 2 years imo.

Q6600 being £140 now, seems foolish to get the Q9450 at it's price.

    Re: Q9450?

Q6600 at somewhere around 3GHz will last you a very long time!
i'd get the Q9450 if you can afford it and don't mind waiting though.

Not as a big drop as I would have expected/liked, still, every penny counts though I suppose.

£140 for a quad core that's easily capable of 3GHz at stock volts?!
if you compare these prices to AMDs offerings..
then Intel are much cheaper and much better..

    Maybe so
But I paid £160 for my Quad last year and with the influx of new processors and an Intel price cut I thought they may have dropped a little more. Many other items have dropped considerably more in the past 12 months such as the likes of memory.

Show me a CPU that has dropped in price that much.

Memory has only dropped so much because the manufacturers got their 'supply vs demand' wrong. Nothing more than that.

8800GT/8800GTS have dropped but only because they have been superseeded by superior cards and the supply has caught up with demand.

Can you think of any examples besides memory thats dropped considerably? I cant.

    Re: Q9450?

You sure the price cuts have come in already I know that it has fallen ~£15 but they were suggesting that the Q6700 would come down to sub £200 and that still seems to be as expensive as ever.
