GTX will drop I would think but probably not to the price of the HD4850. For £350 he certainly has very high hopes lol

If had the above machine for £350 I'd be pretty damn happy.

    Re: 3850 £300 build

Blitzen gives it the seal of approval.. thats good enough for me lol

I would take the antec cases as they are better built, have silence in mind and genereally have the better cooling

    Each to their own though

    Re: 3850 £300 build

Ok this is FINALLY happening but the budget went up to 400, wireless was added to the requirements and it seemed daft not to include a 4850 instead.

Due to me not being at home and ebuyer refusing to deliver anywhere except my home address i need to order EVERYTHING from scan.

The only other thing i considered was the NSK2480 instead of the Zen case and Seasonic supply but i thought it would be better off playing it safe and leaving some room for future upgrade.

Witht he shipping removed here thats about £391 leaving £9 for me to ship it to the guy im building it for.

Looks good Only change I would have made if you could have spent the extra £10 would be to go to the antec 300 but the akasa will be good to.

    Re: 3850 £300 build

mobo looks pretty pants too... but should be fine if you are not going to overclock it...

I would go for the Corsair VX450W PSU instead which costs about the same

    Re: 3850 £300 build

Those mobos are suprisingly good considering how cheap they are, ive used one before. Admittadly the overclocking capabilities are limited however they are fine for small bumps in FSB maybe say 20-30Mhz.

Noticed this http://www.microdirect.co.uk/(25003)...-430W-PSU.aspx they are only round the corner from me so i may well pop round and pick that up instead.

43 quid over budget, you could probably snip 20 quid or more off by going for 2GB of ram, but heck, that's not much considering it includes postage.

*edit* sorry, no tidy screenshot due to me being in the middle of reconstructing my laptop's OS and not having a screengrabber installed yet.

    Re: 3850 £300 build

the budget has now gone up to £400 so thats actually very under budget.

A few other comments, the person im buying for would like a 'decent' looking case and i dont think i would trust that power supply with a 4850. The lowest powersupply i would go for is either the Seasonic or the Antec 380W psu and even then im still cautious about it as the total power draw from the ATI under load is 227W. Add the 120-150W from the CPU thats already getting towards the borderline of 12v supply for any low wattage PSU and considering this PC is for someone else, it wouldnt be fair for me to take such risks.

I didnt really bother with AMD, although 4GB is a nice prospect. It just seems daft to uy AMD nowerdays, intel chips are so much better performers.

    Re: 3850 £300 build

whilst on MD i stumbled across this OCZ StealthXStream which seems an apsolute bargain tbh. Small amount of research shows they are made by FSP!

also Geil Value Ram now that there is no overclocking plans this wud probs be fine i reckon.

All this means i cud bump up the size of the HDD or get a better mobo

    Re: 3850 £300 build

Defo check out the superspecials on aria.co.uk , bought quite a few of my parts their last minute, for example their currently selling retail Q6600 for £105 !

I reccomend the Coolermaster CM690 top case
