    worth upgrading??

    hello.

i've an old shuttle sn95g5 v2 at the moment, running an old s939 AMD athlon 64 3000+ on a gig of ram, Asus Geforce 6200 128MB with vista. the box itself will take any of the cpus listed below - its pretty easy to get one of hte non-x2 4 gig chips for around £30ish, and a 2 gig matched pair of rammerys for £30 or so.

i use the system for a mix of photography stuff, watching videos (its hooked up to an lcd telly in my bedroom) and general web browsing. Question is - is it worth upgrading any of those components? I'd like to keep it quiet - so any gpus with big fans are out of the running. or should i just wait another year or so and buy something completely new?

    Re: worth upgrading??

You should notice a RAM upgrade, but for what you are doing I doubt you would feel any real benefit from an upgrade to a slightly faster single core CPU. Some applications like the bigger cache in the higher end chips, but even then it was never enough for me to bother with an upgrade (and my compile jobs do see a difference).

Of course the question is, does the machine feel slow to you right now?
