Urgent Question - JMicron JMB363 without RAID?
Hey everyone,
I have a really urgent question. The JMicron JMB363 consists of two SATA ports and RAID capabilities, and is integrated into the motherboard I have. My question is, can I run two SATA drives independently of each other using the JMB363, or must some form of RAID be utilised with this chip?
Thanks for any help you can give!
Re: Urgent Question - JMicron JMB363 without RAID?
I have never seen a RAID chip that requires the drives to be RAIDed to work.
AFAIK, there is no reason they shouldn't work separately :)
Re: Urgent Question - JMicron JMB363 without RAID?
If it's the chip I'm thinking of then yes, it can support 2 SATA devices in non-RAID configuration assuming the BIOS hasn't crippled it in some way. Some lower end motherboard models (Gigabyte comes to mind) cripple the toggle. The physical chip does support non-RAID applications though. In fact, it also supports one PATA device.
Re: Urgent Question - JMicron JMB363 without RAID?
Don't know about 2 (don't see why not) but it works fine with a single drive on 2 systems I use (one because I actually use all the ports and one because a Samsung drive I have is only recognised on the JMicron controller). :)

Thanks for your responses guys; I just gave it a go and it worked separately. :)
