Q9450 overclock

I have been clocking this for the past week or so and have managed the following clocks

3.72ghz 8x465 FSB at 1.4v

It is definitely an FSB wall that is holding this back as voltages on north and southbridges had to be increased to remain stable from 450 FSB upwards.

It seems also that temps are wrong as in some of the E series chips as this idles at 40c+ on watercooling.

They have some instock at £221 at ebuyer!!!!!!!!

What are the temps. Under load?

Do the cores vary significantly in temperature?

At what point did it become difficult to `clock (ie: upping voltage to CPU, NB, SB)?

No problems!

Temps are 68c under load but I don't believe this to be true as it idles at 40c and the ambient temp is only 22c.

Cores were only 1-2c different.

Got to 3.6ghz at 1.325v. 3.4 at stock. The NB and SB voltage needed and increase at over 450 fsb.

If you are using stock cooler the temps are true.

probably about 10-20C hotter then it really is, bios cant interpret the info from diodes properly. Only intel boards work fine.

Dont rely on it being false anyway, get a decent cooler like a scythe

He is water cooling unless I read the opening post wrongly. So assuming its a decent setup its fair to assume the temp diode is being incorrectly reported.

Yes you did read correctly it is watercooled.

Thanks for that atmadden, very interesting. Still seams to be a dearth of info. on how well these are going to `clock.

make sure you update too the newest bios just incase, might reduce it finally because im still waiting for more changes too mine .

hmm realtemp shows a much better reading, still doubt its correct but its better
Core temp says 45/40C
Asus probe says 40C
Real temp says 35/30

this is idle and with a hot case(41c)

Hi i have been fiddling with my Q9450

I managed 3.6ghz easily
Temp under 46 c using tunq tower 120


Q9450 overclocked @3.6ghz
9800GX2 overclocked

I could go even higher since my ram wont limit it [Kingston hyper X ddr2 1200mhz ]

3Dmark points 19,000 using 9800GX2

Got an Xeon X3350 (=Q9450) on its way, would be nice to know some ballpark figure.

Still, nice job done there with 3.6Ghz+ overclocking.

Not just yet with this one im afraid
3.6ghz is still easy with the Q6600 and it runs nice,cool and stable aswell.

Q9450 would be decent if it was under £170 though. Its just pricing itself WAY too high at the moment.

the wolfdales are actually fine themselves, because they work correctly on intel boards, other boards are just failing at reading the info correctly for the temps.
