Urgent Question - JMicron JMB363 without RAID?

    Hey everyone,

I have a really urgent question. The JMicron JMB363 consists of two SATA ports and RAID capabilities, and is integrated into the motherboard I have. My question is, can I run two SATA drives independently of each other using the JMB363, or must some form of RAID be utilised with this chip?

Thanks for any help you can give!

I have never seen a RAID chip that requires the drives to be RAIDed to work.
AFAIK, there is no reason they shouldn't work separately

If it's the chip I'm thinking of then yes, it can support 2 SATA devices in non-RAID configuration assuming the BIOS hasn't crippled it in some way. Some lower end motherboard models (Gigabyte comes to mind) cripple the toggle. The physical chip does support non-RAID applications though. In fact, it also supports one PATA device.

Don't know about 2 (don't see why not) but it works fine with a single drive on 2 systems I use (one because I actually use all the ports and one because a Samsung drive I have is only recognised on the JMicron controller).
