I'm thinking about upgrading to one to the new 8x00 series of Core2Duos, would I be able to just swap out my e4400 and drop in the new one? Would it require a rebuild of Windows?

You won't need to rebuild Windows but you will probabaly asked to allow it to re-validate or register of whatever other sinister communications the OS has with Microsoft HQ
Have you overclocked the E4400? It doesn't seem worth it as the performance difference shouldn't be massive.
I've oc'd to 3.0GHz, but I just thought you'd get more of an OC out of a chip that started off higher anyway.
I probably don't actually need one, it's just I've been reading the CPU megatest in PC Pro, they were quite derogatory about the e4000 series. Mind you, they didn't mention how much you could overclock them...
They will clock a bit higher than the 3.0GHz, but will put more stress on your motherboard and RAM as well as being quite limited by the latter.
I wouldn't bother to be honest.
