Exclamation Delayed Write Disk EMERGENCY!, PLEASE GOD HELP ME

Hi recently I've been getting these random lag spikes, during watching films, playing games, etc. Which eventually cause my system to go down, reinstalling XP and bringing my system back to normal, I ran Crysis for a quick game which is on a 250gb partion on my new SATA Drive M: . I thought I'd gotten rid of this problem but its back and I'm scared my system will go down again. I think the lag spikes which happen every second when they start are caused by this:

And when they stop a balloon at the bottom appears saying "Windows - Delayed Write Disk D:" which is my 180GB IDE drive.

Please Help Me!!! my system can't afford to go down know I have to revise for my GCSE Exams

Also I just noticed my 180GB IDE drive is now no longer visible in 'My Computer'

Re: Delayed Write Disk EMERGENCY!, PLEASE GOD HELP ME

I don't think this is that serous. I have seen this loads of times when copying huge data files (Several Gb) over WiFi from my laptop to a samba share on my Linux box. Windows pops up a torrent of these errors, but meanwhile on Linux there are are no error messages in the system or samba logs, and the data is not corrupted in any way.

Basically I think windows is being paranoid, and ought to be keeping quiet about an error that it can easily correct.

Re: Delayed Write Disk EMERGENCY!, PLEASE GOD HELP ME

But last time I got it on other drives aswell, and I wasn't using the D: drive at all. The OS is on the C: Drive and Crysis is on M: Drive so what gives? I had this problem before where I was playing Crysis on Multiplayer it started doing those lag spikes like every spilt second (not network lag) then my computer crashed out and stuck at the XP Boot screen and never came back up.

Would reformatting the drive fix it?

And is it possible to spread to the other drives?

Re: Delayed Write Disk EMERGENCY!, PLEASE GOD HELP ME

Sorry, I'm afraid I'm not God, but I'll offer my thoughts, for what they are worth...

Certainly back up the critical data (which you should be doing anyway - a drive can fail at anytime - without warning)

However, what I think is happening is this.

Drives writes are processor intensive, and most modern operating systems delay writing information to the disk until a relatively quiet perid. Until then the data is cached. I you are doing very processor intensive tasks (gaming, video etc) there may not be time for the processor to write out to the disk within an allotted time span - so it then flags an error.

If it ONLY happens when you are playing games, streaming video, then that is most likely to be the cause - if it happens at other times then you may have to look more deeply.

By the way - back up your critical data - NOW!

(And one other thing - back up your critical data!!)

Try replacing your IDE cable, and may be disconnecting the DVDROM you have.

I see you have a nfts error about 10 lines down. The corruption seems to have damaged your NTFS filesystem already.

I would suggest you just take the drive off, and don't bother with it until after exam. Otherwise it will take you a couple of days just to get the data sorted.

You need to post more (FULL!) details of your system. It seems that you have some sort of RAID. What is it?

Ok this is my CPU, RAM, and Motherboard I bought this week. My friend said it might be the RAM. Would you say its something to do with the parts, if so should I send it back?

Which motherboard is it exactly, couldn't find any info on the CCL page.....

Have you run chkdsk on the drive? Memtest on the RAM? (very simple and not too time consuming so worth it just to eliminate that)

Re: Delayed Write Disk EMERGENCY!, PLEASE GOD HELP ME

How do I do those tasks?
Btw its doing the lag thing now but no errors have shown up in the Event Viewer...

It always seems to happen in Crysis and any other game 5 mins or so of playing it... its not at any specific TAXING moment like crashing a helicopter... or destroying a massive building. So I dunno.

But yes I'd like to test the parts before I make sure the parts are the problem.

The board I guess is intel but theres no way to be sure.

Re: Delayed Write Disk EMERGENCY!, PLEASE GOD HELP ME

There should be some identifying feature on the board, a code number or something....

Memtest you download and burn to a CD, then boot from the CD.... know how to do that? (no offense intended, just asking... )
