    Asus P5B DeLuxe WiFi AP

I'm building an E6600 system and planned to use this mobo.

However, I've read somewhere that the machine won't boot unless it has the latest Bios update that supports Core2 Duo.

Most websites don't seem to tell you what board versions they're selling.

Anybody know a retailer who will guarantee their boards have the latest Bios?

I think the P5B has always supported C2D, if it doesnt all new board sent out by Asus will have latest bios on it.

There is like a 90%(Probly more) that it will have a pretty new bios.

If you really feel worried, just phone scan get them to test the board for faults, and update the bios to the latest. Its costs around £12 i think.

It was the P5Wdh that had the problems originally.

The shipping bios with the P5B will get you up and running, but it can be fussy about ram.

Really? Haven't heard about that anywhere.

    What does it like/not like?

Only the shipping bios...it didnt like some ocz platinum that I had, and there were quite a lot of people having probs with g.skill at the time, but I havent heard anyone complain about it for a while, so maybe the shipping bios is a later one now?

I have the GeIL that many are buying due to the price, and it and this board (minus the WiFi) was all good straight out of the box.

Yeh i thought it was just the P5W DH Deluxe, although i had the P5W and it shipped with a good bios that supported C2D.

I think the problem with some memory is more due to the boards default ram voltage but I have GSkill which requires a little more than some but was recognised and has worked fine.

    No issues what-so-ever. Running at 3.3GHz 1:1 at 4-4-4-12, and at 2.1v

Simplest overclock I've ever had to do - I pushed it to 3.6GHz without doing anything to volts, and it didn't work, but I couldn't be bothered to tweak it - it's not like you'll notice the difference between 3.3 and 3.6 lol.

The only Core2Duo processor that does not work correctly on this board is the E4300. To get the E4300 working on the P5B Deluxe WiFi-AP you need the latest BIOS version 1004 which can be downloaded from the Asus website. The problem is that you will not get a POST with the E4300 installed, so you will need to have an alternative LGA775 processor in order to update the BIOS. If you have an E6xxx Core2Duo processor you should have no problem and will not need to update the BIOS.

I have been using the E4300 with bios 804 for a couple of weeks and got some pretty decent overclocks (see the E4300 overclocking thread), the 1004 bios is actually worse for me as it seems to make a mess of the dividers.

I've got this board too, it's fairly good apart from the wifi adapter which is pretty poor to be honest, it's always dropping the connection!
