    IP35 Pro 2 8800GT?

My son has a gaming rig:

    Abit IP35 Pro
    6600 Quad
    8800GT 512mb
    4 x 1Gb 6400
    Samsung 206BW @ 1680 x 1050

Running Vista, plays WoW, Crysis etc.

He has a birthday coming up and reckons a 2nd graphics card will give him better gameplay.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks

The motherboards not SLi compatible I'm afraid, it'll only do ATi Crossfire.

It will give better performance, but Sli (using 2 Nvidia cards) doesn't work in all games, and that motherboard isn't capable of running it anyway without hacked drivers.... it can run two Ati cards, two HD3870s for example. For Sli you need a motherboard that is capable of it, such as a 680i chipset board.

    Re: IP35 Pro 2 8800GT?

when is his birthday if i may ask? because the new 9900nvidia cards are coming out in mid year along with amd's 4800 series, im guessing its not near there? because they should offer better performance then 2x 8800gt even if the motherboard was compatible, also the board supports only pci-e 16 and then pci-e 4x for crossfire as far as i know.

Id suggest something like a new pc case(if its an old one) like an antec 900 and you could (if you wanted) give him some extra cash so he can save for a new gen card.

At that resolution the 8800GT should be fine, SLI/Crossfire are not all they are cracked up to be, Crysis is gonna be a performance killer whatever u throw at it, as for WoW, thats not really gonna benefit, the current system is more than capable.

    Re: IP35 Pro 2 8800GT?

    Thanks for the replies all.

I will show him your suggestions and see what he has to say.

He already has a new case (Antec P182).

Looks like he should wait a while, but his birthdays at the end of next week and thats asking the impossible (to wait)!

    Thanks again

    Re: IP35 Pro 2 8800GT?

i know its not as good as a proper birthday present but you could give him an I.O.U for how ever much you were going too spend, too put towards a new card in the future. Probably not the best but its still a suggestion.
