Top one is VFD
A lot of LCD's have a backlight on them though.

If it's a smaller display like what Agent linked then I'd go VFD for HTPC use, purely for visibility reasons.

yeah it's for a media centre PC I'm planning. For some reason the Antec case I want the black one comes with a LCD and the Silver with a VFD which confused the hell out of me.

An LCD can sometimes better when the ambient light is high - and as Agent says, many have a backlight anyway.
