    Question My new Quad-core RIG

Been about 3 years since I last built my PC .. been looking around, lots of reading, lots of questions and lots of confusion I think I know what I need for my new build!

Q6600 G0 SLACR with Zerotherm Nirvana as the cooler
    ABIT IP35 Dark Raider
    4GB G.Skill PC2-8000 (5-5-5-15)
    Asus EN8800GTS 512mb
    Samsung SH-S203D 20X DVD±RW/RAM/DL Serial ATA
    Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi Xtreme

    Components from old build:
Akasa Eclipse 62 case with 2 x Akasa 120mm Amber fans
    Western Digital 500GB WD5000AAKS
    TAGAN TG530-U22 PSU
Akasa Blue chipset cooler [probably just use the fan for the one of the chipsets on the ABIT]

So what does everybody think, anything that I should change, add or reconsider?

    Re: My new Quad-core RIG

I wouldn't bother eith the PC8000 ram for a Q6600, unless it is particualrly cheap. PC6400 is perfect for running it at 3.6GHz before it's overclocked itself.

There's GTS's floating around for £150 at the moment so don't spend over the odds on the Asus.

No idea what that cooler is like, I would get scythe or thermalright myself.

Wouldn't bother with the sound card until you are convinced the onboard isn't good enough.

    Looks good though nice case

    Re: My new Quad-core RIG

Well, I was thinking of the Gigabyte 8800gt with the zalman, but that's costing the same as the ASUS 8800gts for £150 and I would like it to exhaust the air instead of keeping it in the system.

Ya, will most probably go for the pc2-6400 ram as I don't see many hitting more than 400fsb on this board with air cooling.

Yep .. got the case ages ago, and apparently its stil retained its value!

I've got the eclipse to, with the modified side panel for 120mm fan. Great case. Planning on going to town on it soon to make it silent

    got it cabled nicely though

    Re: My new Quad-core RIG

I wish I had taken pictures of my case with all the cabling and everything. Looked just as neat! No pics now as I ripped it all up as I transferred all the old parts into a £30 pound case

Once I finish my build, I will post up pics too!

Modified side panel? What's that? My side panel is solid black.

    Re: My new Quad-core RIG

Ha, that's pretty cool. I didn't know there was such an accessory! I remember when I bought it, there was an option for a transparent side panel also, are those still available?
Edit: Ah never mind, found it. The maxi one.

Avoid the sound card, had nothing but trouble with both it AND creative. Onboard is perfectly good to, I couldn't tell the difference when the Xfi was working, and that was through a very good amp and speakers.

    Re: My new Quad-core RIG

Ok, ordered it all with the following changes. Didn't bother with the soundcard, and went instead with a BFG 8800gts.

    So all in all,

    Abit IP35-Pro
    Q6600 G0 SLACR with Zerotherm Nirvana + 120mm fan
    4GB (2x2GB) Corsair DDR2 6400 2x256Mx64 non-ECC 2x240 DIMM unbuffered 5-5-5-18 64bit OS DHX
    512MB BFG OC 675Mhz(core) 1940Mhz(memory)
    Pioneer DVR-215DBK

    and with my old parts
    Akasa Eclipse 62 case + 2 Akasa 120mm fans
    Tagan 530W PSU.

Its not cutting edge, but let's hope its a kick ass build.

Aye, shouldn't be much on the Q6600 though it doesn't look like, a tenner or so.... just that the Q6700 becomes affordable.
