I need help before I cry.
My computer is displaying nothing.
Received my RAM today (2x2GB OCZ) and put it in my comp. Started it up, and nothing displayed on the screen - just "No Signal". Tried each DIMM individually, same result.
I thought it would be the res (that was my problem before), so I used a monitor which I've tried and tested this comp and it works.
Exact same problem here. Start up the computer with 1 DIMM, 2 DIMMs, 1 DIMM again..still, nothing.
Spent 2 hours trying to solve this and I don't have a clue how to fix it, considering nothing will display on the screen. Please, anyone know whats wrong?
Re: I need help before I cry.
Try going to stock speeds on the cpu, setting the spd/mem volts manually. You may also require a slight bump in chipset voltage. Start off with a cmos clear. What ram were you using previously
Re: I need help before I cry.
I was using the same RAM, but one stick was faulty and it worked fine with only 2GB.
I'll clear the cmos then.
Uhoh. Why is the CMOS in the most awkward place where I can't actually reach? I had to use tweasers to get hold of the jumper, but as soon as it came off it slide off the tweasers and to the bottom of the case. I have no idea where it went though! Oh god, can you buy a replacement jumper or something? :(
it feel inside the bloody psu...
I thought it was rattling inside the psu, but I can't hear it anymore.
Has this happened to anyone before? I feel so screwed right now, what do I do?
Re: I need help before I cry.
If it really is in the PSU (check the bottom of the case first - it may have fallen through) you mayhave to remove the PSU - shaking it (the PSU) over large piece of white paper may dislodge it and it might fall out again (hold it upside down) failing that, you may have to take the cover off the psu and just look for it.
But do have a thorough check of the case first - it may have fallen through the PSU, or bounced off it. try shaking the case gently.
You can buy the jumpers - Maplinsd - but if you can, you relly need to find the original to be certain that it hasn't lodged somewhere that it might cause a short or some other problem later.
Re: I need help before I cry.
Ok. I cleared the CMOS.
Now my computer won't turn on!
The PSU is switched on, but when I press the power button on the case...nothing happens!
What do I do?
Is it possible I've fried the motherboard somehow?
When I switch the PSU on, the red light goes on on the motherboard.
Re: I need help before I cry.
Did you find the jumper? If you did, did you put it back on the correct pins? I would also check power/reset switch connectors on the board
Re: I need help before I cry.
No, and I cannot hear it rattle at all.
Is it possible the jumper is cause a short in the PSU?
I got another jumper, cleared the CMOS and put it back on pins 1 and 2, and now when I press the power on button...niltch.
Re: I need help before I cry.
The jumper is plastic coated, it would be very unlucky if it did, get it out of the psu, check all cables/connection
Re: I need help before I cry.
Oh crap, I think I've fried the mobo :( DOH!
My friend is up "trying" to help me. I put the CMOS into clear, and the door rang.... I think he might of powered up the computer whilst the CMOS was in clear. Cause when I put it back...it wouldn\'t power up.
Do you think this would have fried my motherboard?
Re: I need help before I cry.
Any manual I have ever read warns of this, personally back in the day I have taken out some ram with this mistake
I would power eveything off, try a cmos clear again, take the battery out also, give it 5 mins, minimal boot, graphics/1 stick ram/ see if it will turn on/post
I say again check all connections/check the graphics card/power/reset etc
Re: I need help before I cry.
I don\'t have any RAM in at the moment, I took it out before trying this.
So it\'s most likely the motherboard has been fried? God dammit :(.

I have no idea, you will have to trouble shoot it
edit
I have just read the board manual
Pins 1+2 shorted Normal Operatiion
Pins 2+3 shorted Clear cmos
Re: I need help before I cry.
So if the jumper was on pins 2+3 and it was powered on....would it clear the CMOS, or would it damage the motherboard?

Unless you really know what you are doing then DONT DO THIS!!!
The caps inside a PSU hold a hell of a lot of voltage. Dismantling a PSU should never be done lightly.
Re: I need help before I cry.
Let's just run through the steps you need to do, calmly...
1. Switch PSU off.
2. Take power lead out of PSU.
3. Put Jumper on pins 2-3
4. Take out CMOS battery
5. Go and do something else for 30 mins.
6. Put battery back in.
7. Move jumper to pins 1-2
8. Put power lead back in PSU
9. Put in ONE stick of RAM
10. Switch on PSU
11. Try to boot up*
12. If successful change the RAM voltage to the correct value (probably 2.1v) in the BIOS
13. Switch Off
14. Add second stick of RAM
15. Try again to boot
If it doesn't boot at Step 11 you will need to try taking the motherboard outside the case on cardboard or similar (so not to get static) to make sure you're not getting a short.

You will have to trouble shoot this, I can't tell you if your board is fried, it may be the bios chip is hosed, I have no idea. You should now be trying what I have already told you, clear cmos, minimal boot, check all connection
