    AX78 and 5000+ BE OC?

I've got an AX78 and a 5000+ Black Edition sitting in my bedroom at the minute, all plugged into my computer. These specs:

    Case: Xclio Coolbox
    Fans: 2x180, 2x120
GPU: 1x HD3650 (am getting another one soon )
PSU: 550w (can't remember make offhand.. think it's corsair)
    HDD: WD Caviar 250gb
    RAM: 2x1GB Corsair
    Mobo: AX78
    CPU: 5000+ Black Edition

Anyhow, as I've got the Black Edition of the 5000+ I thought I might as well OC it a little.

My brother was kind enough to lend me some stuff (OCCT, Fan Speed, CPUZ, GPUZ and some other stuff) as I don't have the internet on my decent computer.

Anyhow, I can get it, without changing voltage, from 13x200 to 17x210. Only when I then use OCCT it rockets up my temperature in 4s flat.

It is stable at 16x200 though. Anyhow, with that all nicely set up I started running OCCT while I went off for an hour to do something else.

Came back and it says "Clock Speed:2600" instead of "Clock Speed:3200"

I thought it might have.. I don't know... dropped down to that when it hit so much temperature.... but it shouldn't be a problem. I've OCed my Graphics Card to the best it can do without breaking the 40C barrier, but this was being a pain.

I restarted my OCCT, and sat and watched it. It didn't go above 2600.3hz at any point.

Anyhow, I asked my brother what was going on. He had no idea (unusal... seeing as he seems to know just about everything about computers... not my words, but several of my classmates parents work with him and they say it and their kids pass it onto me ) so I thought I'd better throw it up into the air.

Is this just OCCT mucking up and not showing proper clock speeds?
Is this my mobo refusing to run my processor at the speed it should be going at?
    Is this just my imagination?

Btw: this is my first time OCing, so don't be too creul

    with thanks

Whack the multi up to 15 leave the fsb as normal 200 which should give you 3.0ghz then test with Mersenne Prime Search or Download Stress Prime 2004 BETA
for a couple of hours may be more to see if its stable. I think 17x210 is pushing it a little. I'd not bother will 2 graphics cards on the motherboard unless you need it, one single graphics
solution would be better. Just a thought.

The 5000 Black should hit around 3Ghz, most seem to do, mine does 3ghz stock volts, above 3.1 it starts to need silly vcore. Try as burtie suggested, then take it from there.

Re: AX78 and 5000+ BE OC?

    I can hit 17x210

The problem is that OCCT isn't recognizing the fact I can do it!

unforntunately, it does seem to affect core temp, but not core clock.
Meaning that although my clock seems to stay at 2.6ghz it's rocketing the temp.

If you'd read my post you'll discover that I hit 3.2ghz stable 24 hrs... but it's not recognised as 3.2ghz in OCCT.

    Answer the questions

Oh - and two GPUs is wanted, but not needed... and as I will probably sell on a GPU for £60 eventually, a £50 GPU isn't a bad buy.

And the fact that ESIV keeps on crashing my GPU...

Re: AX78 and 5000+ BE OC?

On my 939Dual-SATA2 with AM2CPU upgrade I got the 5000+ BE to 3.0GHz (15x200) at 1.4v. Any higher speed and I start getting errors during stress testing. The VCORE won't go any higher on my board without modification. I think your CPU / motherboard is throttling (lowering the speed automatically) when it hits higher temperatures. I had this happen when a fan controller that I was using for the CPU speed failed.

Keep an eye on the temperatures in Speedfan when you're testing a new OC. Mine didn't like it somewhere north of 60° (not sure exact temperature).

Re: AX78 and 5000+ BE OC?

    lol...

I've not broken 50C yet... 40C on everything but CPU.

However.. it was a throttle thingy... refused to go above 2.6ghz. I turned it off, and I'm currently testing 3.0ghz for stability...

I'll raise it in an hour or two and see how high I can get it to boot at...
