Well, the temperature only briefly went above 70*C and is now quite happy at 60*C so I think 3.0GHz is a nice and stable speed.

I'll e-mail my dad about the Arctic cooler and see about him buying that for me (I still owe him £300 for the PC lol, he made up the other £250 - not having to pay VAT rocks )

hmm also make sure that ur HSF is secured properly. recently from moving around, and opening my case etc...i started getting really high temps, i checked it, and yea one of the plugs/pins wasn't flush. after i secured it back in place i got much lower temps, even than b4 when i thought it was ok - i don't think i had it totally secure from the start when i built it.

but yea, an aftermarket cooler is well needed when u clock higher!

It varies between 60*C and on the odd stress test, goes up to 70*C all at 3.0GHz.

Next time I'm in a position to whip the side off, I'll have a poke around and double check the HSF.

I run the stock intel cooler and with a warm living room, I see about 44c idle and 56c load, normally with just me and my partner chilling with our dogs * Samoyed's * we have a cooler room and idles is about 39c and load drops relativity.

Thats still very hot for only a 6oomhz increase.

Incidentally, will I need thermal paste or anything when putting on the new HSF?

Also, is there a program I can use to manually adjust my CPU fan? Neither nTune or RivaTuner seem to allow me.

All I can adjust is my GPU fan.
