    Angry Icy Box will not pickup Via SATA???

    Can some one give me any idea to why my SATA 3.5"case Icy Box will not pickup in XP or Vista, when connecting it via a SATA cable?

    (Picture is just to show what the back of ICY BOX port looks like, The HDD inside my ICY BOX is actually connected via SATA inside as well, not IDE)

    I have been using this via USB to connect to my PC but now that i have a shuttle with an external eSATA port i have tried connecting it up and nothing happens,
    does not show in device manager, or disk management?

    I am using the correct cable that is SATA to eSATA and to my knowledge SATA is hot swappable right? So you can plug it on when it windows.

    If any one could give me some ideas would be grateful....

    Cheers

    I know with the AKASA boxs I have (which are very very similar) you cannot connect a PATA drive with the SATA connection.

    Only the following is possible:
    PATA -> USB
    SATA -> USB
    SATA -> eSATA

    Im using SATA -> eSATA so should work....?

    I mite try opening up the PC and connecting it directly to the SATA ports on the MOBO to see if its the shuttle external SATA port that is faulty?

    Re: Icy Box will not pickup Via SATA???

    Ah ok.

    Yeah I'd try that.

    Another thought, is there a jumper on the controller to select USB or eSATA? the ASAKA cases have a switch on the back. Just a thought

    OK, next. Is the BIOS set in IDE mode? It won't be detected in IDE mode until you start it from cold. If it's AHCI or RAID it should be picked up straight away (or via the Device Manager in some configurations).
