    AS5 conductivity

    Hi,

Just wondering if getting a small amount of AS5 (i mean like residue from not thoroughly cleaning it off) around the NB chip have any chance of shorting the small pins?

    Re: AS5 conductivity

quantity isnt really important, the stuff is conductive in any quantity. if it manages to span two of the pins then thats a problem.

    clean it up?

    Re: AS5 conductivity

Unlikely, although I'm a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to these things

AS5 is not conductive, but it is slightly capacitive. Its been known to cause issues when it gets on RAM chip pins, but these are very small and of a much closer proximity.

From the actual residue - I couldn't see it happening myself, but for the sake of cleaning it I would

Go and get an ear-bud. Spray a bit of deodorant on it (alcohol based) and give it a rub. It'll come off in no time

These were my thoughts exactly. Its just late and cant be bothered to re-apply and instal windows now. Will wait til the morning and use some MK-2 instead, stuff is MUCH easier to spread and totaly non conductive.

As long as its alcohol based it works just as good Just watch out for the nasty acetone based ones - They tend to stick around and break down the thermal paste sometimes

I have some AS5 you can have

That's why you dry it off thoroughly with cotton wool after you've got the grot off... I've never had a problem with it breaking down thermal paste.... heyho, everyone's experiences are different!

    Re: AS5 conductivity

If you can rub it off with cotton wool, its highly unlikely to be acetone based. Acetone stuff is almost 'greasy' in appearance and causes mucho swearing

Alcohol has an amazing number of uses don't it?
