External HDD+ bridgeboard + drive tower

I'm poised to buy two Samsung Spinpoint F1 1Tb drives, house them in an old drive tower I bought off eBay (anyone want 8 SCSI CD-ROM? Nope, didn't think so), and hook them up using a eSATA/USB2 bridgeboard from Span.com set to RAID 1 (Mirrored), connected to my main workstation via a eSATA backplate. I might mount them up in SATA caddies later.

I just wanted to know if anyone else has tried something similar, if there are better (cheaper or higher spec) alternative and if they had any experiences with Span?
