    1 x 8800GTS 512mb would be your best buy.
I game on the same resolution as that with full settings and they are very very good.

Can get one for £150-160 now aswell. (So £40-50 cheaper than a GTX)
They are definitely the sweet spot in the GPU world atm.

Look here: Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK
They may well have them on offer. If not they have them for under £160.

    Good Luck

    Re: New Graphics Card...Help?

Scan have the 768MB XFX 8800GTX on the 'today only' page (in the 'super savers' section) for £170.38, Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK.

Though he would be fine with the 8800GTS 512mb, I just mentioned the gtx as I thought it is a good price and not too far off the gts price.

    Re: New Graphics Card...Help?

Does he have an SLI motherboard? SLI has actually come on a long way whereby in games that are configured for it they are getting close to 100% improvement with the second card. Even in crysis which is particularly poor for multi gpu setups 2 9600GT's will outperform any single card (9800GX2 excluded). If he needed a motherboard upgrade too then it would not be worth it. Also unless it is a 680 or 780/790 motherboard you are restricted to below x16 lanes when in SLI mode.
