Q6600 @ 3.0Ghz Is the Voltage too high?

Hi all, I told my P5E to raise FSB to 333 on my Q6600 G0

It has also increased my voltage to 1.312v on the CPU Core.

Is this ok?

Be fine.......its adjusting it for you accordingly.

These Q6600's arent as weak when the volts go through them as the wolfdales.

as far as i know you cant kill it by undervolting it, it simply wont boot but remember to stress test it with orthos or something similar for a bit when dropping the volts/overclocking, as soon as you find the lowest one where it wont boot bump it up again and stress test with orthos for a much longer time and if it becomes unstable then bump up a notch again.

no you won't kill it by undervolting. follow hicks advice to find the best voltage for that overclock. if theres less volts theres less energy to do damage. Temps will always raise a bit when overclocking that's why most users get a better cooler. But if you're using the stock cooler and you aren't going over 60-65 under load on that cpu then I'd say that's fine. But lower temps usually means longer lifespan. But probably more longer than you're ever going to use it anyway

I guess your have the CPU voltage set to auto so it increased when you upped the FSB? I have the Q6600 and upped the FSB to 334 with the CPU voltage set to manual and let it at stock volts, its sitting happily at 3GHZ with no extra volts and is Prime stable

I originally upped the voltage too as thats what I thought you needed to do but someone on here i think it was told me to try it on stock volts and it worked, however YMMV

i'm doing this at the moment, anything over really 3150MHZ, i need to keep it on auto voltage (which bumps it up to around 1.30 V), otherwise a bluescreen is likely...but i wanna work out the lowest voltage i can keep it at to get rid of heat.

at the moment i have it at 3015MHZ, and i've got it on normal as opposed to auto - Core Voltage 1.163 V / 1.238 V in everest

As with my own quad its the VID of the chip, mines 1.2375v so I guess its works the same for all quads? So whatever the VID is for your chip?

Really?! CPU power scales quadratically with voltage, so a your CPU will be using ~12% less power than it was at 1.312v.

Even if the temps haven't dropped, you're still saving electricity.

I'm @ 3.0GHz and it auto set itself at 1.31.

When I get a new fan, I'm going to OC up to 3.6GHz and fiddle with voltages then.
