E2180 or E2200

I'm hoping to build a new rig in the next few days, its for gaming amongst other things, and these are the two processors i'm hoping to get, and overclock them to around 3ghz.

Which processor is a better choice, and OC'er?

Why not the E2220?

They are all pretty much the same chip with different stock clocks.

The E2220 will be 'easier' to overclock as it has a higher multiplier. also stock is 2.4Ghz


What motherboard are you looking at buying?

stock is 2.2ghz on the one i want, but its £9 more then the e2180

the mobo i will be buying is a gigabyte p35-ds3

and crucial ballistix pc6400

That mobo will give either CPU enough juice to reach 3GHz.

If you are comfortable with overclocking then just buy the E2180 and save the extra dollar or get a decent after market cooler

At this moment in time I would not recommend Ballistix RAM (even though I have 4Gbs - check 'My System') because the new sticks with chips on only one side do not overclock very well.

Also for £150 I would be wanting a 8800 GTS 512Mb unless you really want Crysis (can be found for £25 elsewhere).

I usually shop with SCAN - because of the great customer care, the forum on hexus and also the free carriage helps alot
Below shows the total when you can recieve free carriage. If not the total is more like £408

Oooh, that looks brilliant actually, apart from the hard drive, because I hate samsung and would not touch them.

That case looks the bomb though, the cooling on it is top notch, although all that open hole do make me slightly wary of water falling into it, but the PSU listed does not mention the 12v amps, as there is a requirement for the 8800gt something like 22amps, plus its out of stock

Is the motherboard any good? never tried abit or heard much about them and does the gfx card come with any free games?

I want crysis either way, but i can always buy that separately

also is that RAM any good for over clocking? cos i know you said the ballistix aren that good anymore, but there still designed for OCing and they usually cost a fortune too. do scan stock the ballistix?

and sorry for all these questions, last one ....should i not go with the e2200?

Ive had my comp on my desk for about 6 months an no prob with liquid.
The PSU has two 12v rails rated at 16amps each (im not too good on power usage) there is a newer version of the PSU that has 2 12v rails rated at 18amps each. You might be able to phone SCAN and ask which revision comes with the case. As they are getting new stock there might be a chance it comes with the new revision PSU.

Yeah that is prob the best P35 board available for the price, abit are an excellent motherboard manufacturer.

Unfortunately no, but it is cheap (its £145 on ebuyer) and BFG have a 10yr warranty. Plus I just bought one myself

The Corsair RAM is very good and reliable and should overclock pretty well, it also comes with a lifetime warranty.
The 'new' Ballistix are okay at stock but seem to overclock poorly as they dont use Micron D9's anymore.
SCAN do not stock them.

If overclocking then I dont think it is worth it. All these chips are pretty much the same but with different stock clocks and multipliers. They all max out around 3-3.4GHz when overclocked.

The case is kind of late which is a shame, but i think i might wait and see then, as it seems like an excellent bundle, not entirely sure on the PSU though.

I've read up abit on the Abit boards, they seem like good boards feature wise, very attractive, but i'm not convinced by its reliability or quality unfortunately, the gigabyte board seems slightly better, but its defo on my list though, its a very attractive choice.

That graphics card is excellent value though, I think ill get that, if i can figure out this scan delivery promotion thingy, which is confusing to say the least.

Ive read up on the memory issue, the ballistix are good but just not as good as the old double sided ones, plus corsair are pretty much the same, as micron dont seem to make d9's anymore, and crucial dont do double sided anymore.

Slightly confused on the RAM again.

you could buy a case+ psu separately, recommend Xclio for a budget build as they are pretty good as far as i can tell(i have one ) or there is a OCZ psu @ ebuyer for £33 OCZ StealthXtream 500W PSU - 1x PCI-E 6/8pin, 2x SATA 12cm Fan - Ebuyer which is ment to be alright, for your build it should be, then you got alot to spend on a good case e.g. cm690 or something like it.

Ballistic were one of the best but crucial have been slipping recently, get 2gb set of corsair cas 4 pc6400 for £30 (no need for the dhx ones), they are good from personal experience and they overclock pretty well, 900mhz is easy for them.

^ thanks, i'm thinking of going with an antec 300 case and a corsair vx450, which comes to £80, but the antec is out of stock <_<, i would of gone for the cm590 but the case is too big

so should i saver a fiver and go for the corsair with the heat spreaders instead?

i've also changed my mind on a few things:

e7200 > e2200, reason being cos the e2200 doesnt seem to be good for a gaming rig, i think. (but e7200 makes me go overbudget )

and i'm gonna go for the p35-ds3, saves me a fiver over the abit, and it just seems a tad more quality albeit less features.

and the bfg 8800gt has gone out of stock again

your build isnt going to be used for music recording etc? if it is then i wouldnt recommend the gigabyte board as its apparently spike heaven . The antec 300 should be good, forgot it was released 2 days ago, hopefully i can get one soon .

Id say save the &#163;5 and get the ones without dhx stuff, corsair's warranty covers everything apart from going above rated volts(for those it should be 2.1) and heat is not normally a problem for ram so far as i know.
