    Hybrid SLI questions

Been reading up on Hybrid SLI and it looks interesting..., so can someone explain it to me, im more interested in the switching between the integrated graphics and the add in card.
For example, If I had a hybrid SLI motherboard with a 8800GT in the PCI-E slot, could I use the integrated graphics whislt in windows and have the 8800GT totaly powered down, then when I want to play a game have it power up the card and use it without a reboot?
If thats the case how does it work, do I connect the monitor to the integrated graphics and the SLI tech routes the signal from the 8800GT through that or would I have to physicly swap the cable over?
Lastly it looks like its only avaliable for AMD CPU's?, Any word of a Intel chipset with this tech?

    Cheers

    Re: Hybrid SLI questions

Just seen that its only the 9800 series cards that support it atm so gonna be a major upgrade if I want to go this route so will wait for the next gen cards / DDR3 mobos before I upgrade.
Still would like to hear your thoughts on this, im eager to be able to still use windows without a 150watt GPU eating up power doing sod all

    Re: Hybrid SLI questions

The only motherboards nvidia have done for it so for are uATX jobbies, so a pretty big compromise on a high end system. I think there are some ATX ones coming but no doubt they will still not be great boards.

Anything to do with SLi is nvidia as it's their technology, ATi have "crossfire" which is the same sort of Idea.

Most motherboards with integrated graphics are a bit of a compromise at the moment but hopefully with the introduction of things like Hybrid SLi it will become more common place for motherboards.

As for how it works I'm not sure but I would imagine once hybrid SLi is enabled you simply plug the dvi cable into the graphics card as usual and it takes care of it from there.

It will be interesting to see how well it works and whether it lives up to expectations.. my feelings are that it won't though lol
