hard drive mounts?

well im planning on getting a antec 300 soon and i want to get some anti vibration mounts for my hard drive as that will be very noticable with 120mm fans . I saw some nexus ones at novatech for £9 Nexus Twin Disk Anti Vibration Hard Drive Mounts, Fits to any 3.5" HD to then fit a 5.25" Bay : nex-dsktw but are these any good? and are there better/similar and around that price or less? dont really want to spend much on them.
Would having this force it into the 5 1/2 " bay? its not a real issue but do wd aaks have a tendency to get hot?

As 3.5" disks fit snigly into 3.5" bays, any vrbration dampning will mean fitting to a 5.25" bay.

I have something very similar to those Nexus on a seagate in my HTPC. not sure mow much of a difference it makes. I keep meaning to reaplce it with one of these: KustomPCs.co.uk - Nexus Drive-A-Way Silver

These are more expensive though.

Surely the 300 comes with some soft mounting for the HDD's? Antec are good about this normally. Otherwise I'd suspend the drives with elastic, cheap and you can use the 3.25" area which will have decent cooling.

not sure if it does come with it as i havent ordered it yet as im still waiting on reviews for the cooling performance.

never seen a good reason to get these. as long as you bought a decently quiet hdd then all you will hear from it is the mechanical movement from inside. iv never had any "vibrations" from a drive ever

edit: apart from an optical drive.. but thats a different matter

well i can hear my 250 aaks accessing data alot of the time, its louder than 4 80mm fans on full

2x 320 aak's in raid and i cant weird.

well i can, but only internal noises. and very quiet. noise dampening material in the case would be the only think to quieten that down any more

infact just hopping around the file system no i cant hear them, while my usb drives i can

i wouldn't mind fitting some of those myself to my raid0/storage drives to reduce access noise.

any chance of some photos of them in action, i can't see them fitting into a normal 3.25 hard drive bay

ah, nevermind, i see it has to use a 5.25 bay:

• Mounting frame for 3.5" HDDs (IDE/SATA)
• Suitable for 5.25" mounting bays
• Rubber bumpers for decoupling
• Easy installation

i swear its comming from my drive, any idea if yours are set on that quiet setting thing? i was recommended an aaks due to them being quiet and ive always had great drives from wd but this one is probably louder then my 5year old drives...

Just do an elastic suspension. Cheaper and about a billion times better.

I got some from Sainsburys - elastic polyester it was called. Cost about 50p for a couple of metres. Practially any shop will do. Even the corner shop on my street sells it in the random safety pins, paperclips, random useful things section.

Mine's not as neat as that above, but you basically can't go wrong. Made a huge difference to the amount of vibrational noise my system was making (I've got an aluminium chassis...). In fact, I just took a pic for you:



It took me about 15 mins to do. Well worth it.

Although both drives are silent, the vibrations from the HDDs go nuts on the case side panels, I suspended them using cheap elastic from Woolworth's and the case has been silent since. I took it a step further and suspended the front fan too since I a few centimeters of the stuff left.
