    Re: Ordered new gaming pc

The items came to today and it took me around 2 hours to build.
The only problem I've found is that both (keyboard & mouse) of the PS/2 sockets from the motherboard don't work. hmmm... anybody know why?

Thanks & I'll post some pictures up shortly.

    Re: Ordered new gaming pc

Also, the resolution is very low on my monitor although on the control panel it says it's the highest setting 1000xsomething. but in expertool (came with the 8800GTS graphics card) it says it's 800xsomething and won't let me change it from there. any help?

The monitor problem is likely to be driver related, make sure you've got the latest GeForce drivers etc.

it's currently set at 1680x1050 through the windows vista control panel, but it definitely isn't displaying that and in expertool the resolution is 825xsomething and it won't let me change that!

ah.. the fun of teething problems...

drivers, hardware or vista is my guess. Or - all three of them combined to piss you off... Download the latest drivers, make sure Vista isn't playing with your mind (make sure the settings are SAVED.. I had this problem on a friends computer where he set settings quit, the settings remained set, but didn't apply themselves o.O) and if all that fails ring the people who provided the monitor and have a chat with them about native res and actual res. Maybe talk to the suppliers of GPU as well.

    Re: Ordered new gaming pc

    That's so bizarre!

A tip when setting up a new system:
    install os
    install motherboard drivers
    install graphics drivers
    install any other drivers

before doing anything else whatsoever. Always best to install the latest of each by downloading them on another PC, onto USB, then just run the installers. I have no idea why your monitor wouldn't be displaying at native res when you have just installed the graphics drivers.

Also according to a very quick google search there may be compatibility issues with ExperTool and Windows Vista which could be at the crux of the problem. Try removing it and just installing bog standard drivers first..

NVIDIA Forums > Geforce 8800 + DVI + Vista x64 = max res 1024x768 Vista / Nvidia driver incompatibility (strange though that I've never heard of it from anyone else)
