I know nothing about keyboards really and I'm getting my mate a good gaming keyboard for his birthday as I know he would like one as his is ancient :d What is the best gaming keyboard around for him would you say for playing games like Battlefield, Far Cry, Operation Flash Point etc. I was thinking of getting him the Razer Tarantula but opinions would be greatly received.

Thanks for the suggestions. The middle one looks like a space invader :D I love it. He is my best mate and his present for Christmas online was cancelled and so I got him something small last minute and I said I'd get him something a lot bigger and better for his birthday :)Quote:

Yeah the display is really handy for reporting system temps and stuff :)
It's also got one of the best feels, best back lighting and great key strokes for everything, not just gaming.
Love my Saitek Eclipse II, wouldn't trade it for anything...
apart from a razor model i suppose :D
I have the eclipse II also but I wouldn't call it a gaming keyboard. It's just a nice keyboard with a half decent backlights and media controls :)
Another vote for the Saitek Eclipse II. Not specifically for gaming, but it's by far the best KB I've ever used.

I have no idea why, or how, but they've just got under everyones skin as a fine keyboard. Nearly everyone I personally know, owns one.
I had an Eclipse 1 and I hated it.
The backlight dazzled so you couldn't see the keys in low light and it takes up 3 HID slots in Device Manager so it pushed my real gaming devices down out of reach of some games. I couldn't use my Logitech wheel with GT Legends unless I disabled the keyboard entries.
The keytops wore really quickly so the keys I used most looked really tatty within 6 months.
Added to that it's really flimsy like most Saitek kit.
I don't believe any of those criticisms have been altered with the Eclipse II
Saitek make devices that would be really nice if they weren't let down by very cheap materials.
Well if anything I would say the back lights aren't bright enough on the II.
It doesn't feel particuarly cheap to me, the key strokes are actually very soft and quiet with a very good feel.
I've been using mine for over a year now and appart from the difficult to remove dust it's still as new.
That said, I still don't think it works any better as a gaming keyboard than any normal keyboard does..
If you're going to play specific games with it (like Battlefield 2) go with the Zboard. If you're going to do more general gaming, I'd still consider the Zboard (it comes with a general games keyboard), but the Logitech is a good general gaming option.
I'd stay away from the ZBoard TBH.
Idealzon are worse then Creative when it comes to drivers and support.
