    Need PSU help!

Recently I have sold a number of games on play.com and now have £87 in my playtrade account. Now i would if possible like to buy from play.com as it saves money (transfer to bank costs

So anyway I have two PSU's which are on my list:

OCZ GameXStream 700W Power Supply Unit
    or
OCZ Silencer 750 Quad SLI Certified 750W

I have tried reading some review but all the nitty gritty tech stuff goes over my head lol So could people give me some advice on the best one. Also the 750 version says it has +12UDC @ 60A- single rail, what does that mean?

Oh and one last thing i'm thinking of getting the Antec P182 Advanced PERFORMANCE ONE SERIES Super Midi Tower Case- Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK would the OCZ Silencer 750 Quad SLI Certified 750W fit in the psu base with the case fan that is at the bottom.

    Thanks for any help

    Re: Need PSU help!

One thing that I would say (having put my OCZ GameXStream 700W in my P182) is that non modular PSU's are a pain is the behind for this case.

It does fit with the fan still in place but it's a pig as any unused cables will need to be hidden behind the mobo tray taking some of the space you will need for the cables you do want to use. It's perfectly do-able but annoying at the same time.

Take a look at corsair HX's and enermax modu82+ before you commit to the OCZ's. They do have great warranties but so do corsair (if you buy from scan, not sure about anywhere else) and i'm sure enermax are OK to but i've never used them.

    Re: Need PSU help!

Thx for the info! Play.com do have the Corsair HX 620W. My only concern is the power- or maybe this concern is misplaced. I'm planning on building a new quad core system over the summer with either ati or nvidia gfx (waiting on the new cards), will have one 500gb hd.

Would the Corsair HX 620W be enough for that?

    Re: Need PSU help!

Ok just read this "This PSU handles 4Gb of memory, a 6000+ AMD processor (yes and they arn't efficient CPUs either), 5 HDDs, an SLI 8800GTX XXX set-up and X-FI sound card.."

so it seems the Corsair HX 620W would be a gd bet?

the hx620 would be more than enough for something along those lines, even a hx520 would run it.

    Re: Need PSU help!

As has been said the 520w will handle any single graphics card setup you throw at it.

They are very good PSU's, great quality and superbly quiet

Here it is in the P182

You can easily get the mobo power cable to fit behind the mobo tray I just hadn't tried it when I took the picture.

    Re: Need PSU help!

Another quick question some the reviews i have read show the Corsair HX 620W with a fan on top and others with no fan visible in the pics. Just wanted to make sure there arn't 2 versions.

The one with no fan on top is the Corsair CMPSU-620HX 620W HX which i'm guessing is different to the Corsair HX620W which has a fan on top.

    Re: Need PSU help!

I will stick by my convictions that the Corsair 520W is poor vlaue for money.

I will however say that the 620W is dropping in price all over the show quite alot at the moment and for £70 ish its actually not bad.

(still rather spend my hard earned on the new Enermax series though )

For a system like that I'd go with the Corsair HX520. You'll be saving around £20 too.

It certainly would but play don't seem to sell them anymore.
