I didn't think it matters. Have you got the jumpers set correctly?
Saying that, my Akasa rounded IDE cables have Motherboard, Primary and Secondary on them...
:edit: Seeing that piccy, I would say that 3 was for the mobo, 2 was primary and 1 was secondary. Or is it 1 primary 2 secondary?
-
what jumpers?, dont know much, explain plz, (secondary=? primary=?)
i got a old cable and it works fine, but this new one is weird
-
Sorry, replace Primary with Master and Secondary with Slave. Primary and Secondary are the two different IDE channels.
The jumpers on the back of the drive should set them to either Master or Slave (doesn't really matter which way round I don't think) but if you're just replacing another cable, you'll probably find that the HDD is set to Master and the CD-ROM/DVD is set to Slave.
-
sorry but, can you say in simple words like hard drive- dvd-mobo
sorry m8

Ok, 3 onto mobo, 2 onto HDD and 1 onto DVD. That should work! :)
-
do you need a good specs for this Cable, because my mobo is pretty old

Its just a standard IDE cable so it'll work with any ide capable board. Its normally a good idea to keep the hard-drive and dvd/cd-rom on a seperate cable as well, to run the hdd at full speed Ie ATA100/133 instead of ATA33. Although if it is on an old system the hdd may only be ata33/66 (worth checking tho), in which case it wouldnt make much difference! :)
If your having problems its a good idea to check the jumpers (at the back on the hdd/dvd next to where the ide cable goes). Theres should be a diagram on the hdd explaining the pin configuration :)
The Hdd should be set and primary and the dvd/cd-rom as secondary (if using them on the same channel).

Nope, IDE cables are pretty standard, except these new funky ones which are rounded. They work in exactly the same way. :)
-
if all the ide cables the same, why does my old style cable works and this doesnt???? (waste of money, any one intrested)
-
I have two of those in, but as was said, all IDE cables are the same.
-
well sometimes rounded cables will produced errors and slow your hdrive down. because of how close they are curled up together. I still use them but in the past have had to change some rounded due to exactly this
