I've a PC with 2x256Mb PC4000 in it and now regret not having stepped up the first place as I need WAY more than that...
Is there any reason why I couldn't/shouldn'tshove in 2x512Mb in the other 2 spare ram slots?
I know you need to match channels, but are there any problems running two different sizes of sticks - should you either have 4x256 or 4x512??? Or will 2x256 + 2x512 be OK? esp as the machine is nicely overclocked... (2.8Ghz P4C @ just under 3.5Ghz)
What kind of memory is this? Dual channel DDR only gives like a 5% increase in speed...

my mobo has 4 ram slots but the 4th one can only take single-sided RAM, u mite wanna check that out before buying some n trying it. i have 3x512 sticks n run dual channel mode which seems to be fine. ive heard that it can decrease overclocks but you dont know till you try.

my computer "ownz" the macs thast were out when i bought it (and even with a student discount, i could have bought like 2gb of RAM for the price of a standard g5).

I'm a Java developer and the tools I use swallow memory, particularly OptimizeIt's Memory Leak Detector. Comaparing 2 memory heap snapshots usually requires just under a gig - plus it'd be nice to be able to load up a 3rd or 4th snapshot even - and not to have to quit Eclipse and other tools whilst doing this...
You might need to up the memory voltage a fraction if you have all those sticks in - only a step though, if you have problems.
I don't know if dual channel will work very well like that, but it should work if you put things in the right slots.

dual channel gives you... two chanels. the standard arrangement with 2 sticks on single channel motherboards can be considered (A or B) at any time, on dual channel it's (A and B), with 3 sticks on dual channel it's ((A or B) and C) - it will work, but 2 of the sticks will be sharing a memory channel, whilst the third has its own channel
that's my understanding of the theory, anyway
I have three 512MB sticks and I get noting out of having dual channel :-(

nforce2 barely benefits from dual channel tbh
