Can my PSU cope? Is 12V Rail at 12.65V dangerous?
Just upgraded to dual core 4400+ X2 110W version... This probably uses more power than my old operton 152... Can my PSU take it?
Just noticed this 12V rail too... Is it a sign that my psu is struggling?

Re: Can my PSU cope? Is 12V Rail at 12.65V dangerous?
Your PSU is an Xclio 480W yes? I wouldn't really trust that to give out 480W consistently. I think 12.65v on your 12v rail is OK however the 3.3v line giving out 1.54v looks a little low.
If you can afford it I would recommend the Corsair 520W HX modular PSU. I bought one from Scan in October 2007 when my Hiper 580W went KABOOM.
Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK
Excellent price and it copes with my PC OK. It is also modular so you can reduce on a bit of clutter within your case but then seeing you have 2.5Tb of storage space perhaps not. :p

Xclio psu's are decent, not the best but good enough.
Its a brand in psu's i have no worries about buying really, check some reviews
Re: Can my PSU cope? Is 12V Rail at 12.65V dangerous?
I've got a 480 watt xilence running all my gear and it's fine :) Think you'll be alright with your PSU, you've got a more power hungry GFX card than I have too.

Re: Can my PSU cope? Is 12V Rail at 12.65V dangerous?
Its probably reading your 12V wrong.
Re: Can my PSU cope? Is 12V Rail at 12.65V dangerous?
Yup its a 480W Xclio... I am thinking a dual core, a 9800gtx, 5 hard drives and load of usb devices might be too much for it... I don't have a multimeter...
The 3.3V is exactly 3.3V in everest and bios... the 12V doesn't come up in everest/bios... is there another voltage checking program that I can use?
Re: Can my PSU cope? Is 12V Rail at 12.65V dangerous?
Just buy any old cheap multimeter. Forget about software options if you want a reading you can trust.
Re: Can my PSU cope? Is 12V Rail at 12.65V dangerous?
The -12v and -5v were way off on my enermax.
Can't say Speedfan is 100% reliable.
Re: Can my PSU cope? Is 12V Rail at 12.65V dangerous?
AFIK non of the voltage sensors/software on a mobo is calibrated - so the readings are suspect from the word go. If they are 10% accurate, its probably as good as it gets. Is it working? Yes - don't worry. If it isn't - start doing some investigating with a multimeter in the back of the ps connectors - but be careful you don't cause damage by careless probing and shorting something out.
Bottom line - "If it ain't broke - don't fix it"!
Re: Can my PSU cope? Is 12V Rail at 12.65V dangerous?
Well it is working fine and all the other voltages are stable and correct so I'll leave it :)
The 9800gtx is coming out soon anyway and this is becoming a htpc :p
Thanks guys
Re: Can my PSU cope? Is 12V Rail at 12.65V dangerous?
my xclio is fine, the 12v rail hits 11.9 on load but thats it and with the 3.3v going to 3.23 and 5v staying the same. Speed fan says that my -12v is 16.7 :P ansd my -5v is 8.6
Re: Can my PSU cope? Is 12V Rail at 12.65V dangerous?
The readings are wrong, simple as.
Measure with a multimeter to check. There is no way that your +5 rail is at that, so it stands a good chance the +12 rail isn't correct either :)
Re: Can my PSU cope? Is 12V Rail at 12.65V dangerous?
A PSU isnt likely to overvolt a rail, its most likely to undervolt it under load.
Re: Can my PSU cope? Is 12V Rail at 12.65V dangerous?
how would you go about finding/testing the 12v rail (well 4 on my xclio xD) because im curious as to what volts mine are doing.
Re: Can my PSU cope? Is 12V Rail at 12.65V dangerous?
iirc XClios are CWT built so OK.
& 12.54V is (just) within the ATX spec. of 5% tolerance.

I think you just stick the two connectors on 2 pins of a unused molex... someone correct me if this is wrong, I don't want to be responsible if hicks dies by doing this...
Re: Can my PSU cope? Is 12V Rail at 12.65V dangerous?
Yep, just get a digital multimeter, set it to DC volts, ground the black probe, and stick the red probe into the line you want to measure.
+12v is yellow, +5v is red, +3.3v is orange.

Dont worry.
Thats the software giving incorrect measurements.
Try Everest and see what it says.
Safe loads are +/- 5% (on the whole) but that 12.65 is almost certainly a Speedfan thing. Speedfan isnt great anyway tbh.
Have you looked in the bois to see what that says?
Also, dont be concerned about Xclio PSUs. They may be a little cheaper than most but are very good. I wouldnt hesitate using one.
Re: Can my PSU cope? Is 12V Rail at 12.65V dangerous?
speed fan read my 12v way out and I have two PSUs with the same board. I wouldn't worry about it.
Re: Can my PSU cope? Is 12V Rail at 12.65V dangerous?
well im gunna test my pc now, if i dont reply back i blame you all :P
edit: well, my 12v rail is at 12v but sometiems 11.99, 5v is 5.05v normally and 3v i couldnt test :P, orange wire disapeared .
Re: Can my PSU cope? Is 12V Rail at 12.65V dangerous?
Looks like your voltages are fine, though you should test at load.
Re: Can my PSU cope? Is 12V Rail at 12.65V dangerous?
It was folding (non-smp client) so one core was on full load...
