    Angry SN45G Problems (Freezing/Overheating)

    Hi all,

Just bought me a SN45G (Version 2.0) and have the following specs:

    Athlon 2100+
    512Mb Crucial PC2100
    Samsung 16Gig HDD
    LG 8x Super Multi Writer
    Gainward Geforce 4 4600

During heavy loads (multitasking) the poor thing freezes or resets. This is obviously quite annoying. Any ideas what the problem is ?

I've tried moving the memory to the other slot, and I will reseat the processor sometime (only using the supplied thermal paste - maybe some arctic silver?).

    Could anyone please help !

    Phil

What temperatures are you getting off the CPU at full load as heat is always a main factor when a PC locks up/resets. Also have you tried running a program called superpi it's a good program for testing the stability of your ram

when it locks up (normal clocked processor) the temp is recorded at 53 degrees under load by MBM.

now that i have underclocked it, it seems to be working at about 47 degrees under load. hasn't crashed/frozen yet.

you got a link for superpi ?

SuperPi direct linky When you run it, select the 1mb test as thats the standard that people use If the test wont complete then you basically have dodgy ram. hth

here's a rather interesting picture - i think the old thermal paste MAY have been to blame !!!
