    Laptop Hard drives

    Hey,

I've never worked with the hardware in laptops before and am wondering if all laptop hard drives are the same and how i would go about replacing one which is dead.

also where can i get 'em cheap.

the laptop im trying to sort out is about 4 years old and is made by time.

    Thanks

    m0.

usually are 2.5'' standard laptop discs.

Ebay, ebuyer, thats about it. they are usually expensive in comparison to a 3.5' disc.

time - hmmm, check that you can actually get into the laptop first! check out the bottom..

You can also get them from Komplett and there is one difference in some of the laptop hdds. Yes they are all 2.5" wide, but some are 9mm high and others are 12mm high, I found this out to my dismay about 4 years ago when I had a laptop and bought a new hdd for it. The one I had was 9mm and the new one was 12mm so I couldn't actually get it into the space for the hdd

for info on the dell jobby. Current plan is to sell the caddy that comes with it on ebay, and also sell my old HD for use in Amigas. The dell drive is a hitachi and comes with a caddy that sits the dell and connector thing and some screws.

Are there any heat issues to watch out for when upgrading the Drives to a faster model.
