    Noisey WD5000AAKS

I just put my new WD5000AAKS in my machine and despite being told it was whisper quiet, I can still hear it seeking rather noisily. It sounds like a quieter version of the noise my old 80GB hitachi deskstar was making. Is this normal?

On a side note, I made a 100GB partition for windows and games, but now that I've installed windows, the rest of the drive isn't being found! What can I do?

    Cheers.

That's odd, I can't hear mine at all in the P182 and only very slightly in the TJ-08. Maybe you could buy a rubber mounting kit, or suspend it with elastic, if you can hear it then there is something wrong with it.

Disc managment will show you the rest of the space, as for the noise? well in my experience all drives make some noise.

I've already put grommets on it, its def not vibration noise (that seems to have gone completely now!)
    Just sounds like seeking noise

I've got 4 WD AAKS drives (2 250GB and 2 500GB) and I can hear them all seeking. It's just the way they are, not a problem

Maybe it's down to the case.

    Re: Noisey WD5000AAKS

    Coolermaster black widow.
It has a side window and two fans at the front so maybe thats it.
Im maybe just being a little fussy, I was expected mega quiet :/

edit - just thought, anything I can do on the software side to help?

there is a bios setting, performance or quiet, quiet reduces noise by about 90% from experience. Setting was present on my Asus boards and the Dell XPS 420

    Re: Noisey WD5000AAKS

I think it's the seek noise, I get it very slightly (like a clicking noise). But it's quiter than the fans so not really an issue...
