    Find me a multimedia enclosure/player

    Preferably for a 3.5" drive, quite cheaper and larger in capacity than 2.5", as size isn't really an issue.

    now what the unit must be able to do is:
    * play DivX files
    * play audio, so wav, mp3, wma etc
    * Support DVD backed up ISO files (so I can get rid of my DVD player )
    * AND ABSOLUTELY must play real media formats such as RMVB....
    Got some old footage which at the moment is only in RMV.
    * possibly have a wifi connection to add in extra files without connecting it physically to a computer.

    So far the only thing I could find was from deal extreme:
    DealExtreme: $95.80 2.5" High-Definition PMP SATA Hard Disk Enclosure with 1080i Component Video +Remote +RM/RMVB * EMS
    DealExtreme: $99.90 2.5-inch SATA TV-Out PMP and Hard Disk Enclosure (Supports RealMedia) - EMS Express

    But at £50ish a go and not from a local UK based company it isn't something I want to take and play with.
    I've previously had a look at the full sized PVR styled units by Netgear and Slingbox etc and none of these appear to support real media formats. So here's where you guys come in.

    Woohoo now Assistant Manager!

    Why not just go for a linux based matx HTPC? Probably can get some second hand components that will do all of that for about £100-£150

    Even a mATX machine is considerably bigger

    Unless it needs moving around or budget doesn't allow it, I'd agree with Sim tbh. It'll play absolutely everything and do everything you want.

    You can get Core 2 m/uATX boards with on-board HDMI/HDCP(if that's something you want) etc reasonably cheap, Core 2's and DDR2 are also cheap as you like, or second hand gear will work just as well, especially if you just want lots of storage and HD is no big issue for you, standard def video doesn't need much processing power.

    Also be incredibly easy to upgrade, adding a terabytes of space would take all of 10mins. Same goes for adding a Blu-ray/HD-DVD/remote control/wi-fi and so on in the future.
