    Would this be enough?

Hey, I am specing up a Terminal Service Server running 2008 Server for 25 users

I am wondering, in your opinion would 2 x Xeon E5405, and 4GB of ram would be enough for basic word processing etc.

Its anoying the MS don't have any info on this at all!

From what I can remeber I used to run about 30 Users on a HP DL380G4 with 2 x 2.8 Xeons and 2GB ram, but this was 2000 Terminal Server with Citrix on top.

Make sure the RAID controller's a beast with BBWC.
On 2003 TS those specs are more than enough. Dunno about 2008

its a RAID 5 - 4 x 146GB SAS drives on a Perc 6i RAID Controller. Yes on 03 it wouldbe no problem but not a single person (not even Microsoft) can tell me if this would be enough for 2008 server. Its as if they just threw it out the door and said "get on with that".

Does the Perc 6i have a battery backed write cache? If not, you are likely to find users moaning about delays.

    Re: Would this be enough?

I don't think it does, I think it may be an option though. i'll have a look into it.

    PERC 6/I offers:

3 Gb/s (Gigabit per second) half-duplex max speed for each port. 6 Gb/s full-duplex max speed

Internal SAS connectors, each containing directly to a hard drive for total bandwidth of up to 24 Gb/s per controller.

    x8 PCI-Express host interface for a total bandwidth of 4 GB/s.

256MB of Error Correcting Code (ECC) battery-backed, cache.

    LSI 1078 SAS/SATA RAID-on-Chip device.
