    DAW notebook

hi guys, im considering the purchase a laptop sometime over summer with the intention of using it for multi-track location recording.
The plan is to pair it with a motu828mk2 firewire interface (or something similar) and cubase sx.
I'm preferably looking for a machine under 500 bar, as it doesnt have to be too much of a beast. i'll use a minimal xp build (i have an xp disc) and will be keeping it clean as possible (minimal media clutter and no games/recreation apps).
i would be looking to use the internal drive as os/apps and maybe a firewire 800 external as a media/project drive.

Any advice on whos making any suitable machines for this price?
    thanks in advance, tim.

    What sort of screen size?

Dell Vostro's are a nice place to start

    Dell Vostro Laptop

There's also the new 1510 and 1310 which can be found in the links on the left side of the page

Some good deals on them here

the vostro 1500 is looking pretty good.. i think a 15" widescreen would do the trick just for portable convenience over the 17". any idea wether that would be expandable to f/w 800? doesnt seem to mention it on the sites.

I believe only the newer the vostro 1310 and 1510 have 800 firewire. They are thinner and lighter though so may prove even better for you.
