    Budget Mobo + Processor recommendations please

    I recently got given a PC by a colleague. Problem is it has a P4 3ghz in it and.... well.... its a bit depressing.

    The only things i know the board needs to have are PCI-E and 4 RAM slots.

    I have very little cash to spend on this so the cheaper the better.

    You didn't specify if it is DDR1 or DDR2 memory you will be using in the system, if DDR1 you'll have to hit eBay to find something. If DDR2, there's a £30 Abit MATX AM2 motherboard that'll fit the bill, and another £40 for an AM2 CPU.

    Sorry, the memory is DDR2. If i can stretch to ~£100 budget would this improve the equipment available significantly?

    Naw, £70 will get you what you need, no problem. About £85ish if you want a full length ATX board.

    If the current board takes DDR2 RAM, are you sure it cannot accept Core2Duo?

    have you tried reinstalling the OS ?
    a clean install with just the programs you need can make a PC seem a lot faster at no extra cost
    Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.
