    What Cooler for q6600?

Right Im getting the q6600 cpu and the dfi x48 mobo but just wondering what cooler I should get.
I prolly wont be overclocking it to start with but will once the system is settled in so I dont really want to have to remove the cooler to fit a new one at a later date. So question is whats the best cooler atm?

    Re: What Cooler for q6600?

I use the Thermalright Ultra 120 eXtreme with my Q6600. It is huge and heavy but I doubt you would ever need to remove it in the future if you decide to overclock. With this heatsink in place and a 120mm fan clipped onto its side (120mm Scythe S-FLEX SFF21F Fan 1600 RPM) I get a very quiet PC as the fan spins at just 900rpm most of the time.

In fact, I had to lower the fan speed warning in the BIOS due to the low speed of the CPU fan. The case fans of my Antec P182 case are also set to their lowest speed. Despite such a quiet PC, the CPU temperature hovers around at just 27 degrees Celsuis most of the time. Thus you can get a cool AND quiet PC.

The only thing to consider is that this is a very big heatsink so make sure it will fit your motherboard AND your case without fouling any components.

Arctic freezer 7 or Sythe I would say unless you want to spend a lot of money. I've got the freezer on my Q6600 and it works a treat but I'm yet to overclock

    *awaits the tyraids of abuse*

    ...I will eventually

    Re: What Cooler for q6600?

good man, mine does a cracking job

i got 2 sflex 1600rpm's on mine and have no complaints

just dont fit the fan in the middle as its a biatch to fit the fan once mounted on the CPU.

    Re: What Cooler for q6600?

Thermalright ultra 120 extreme and the tuniq tower 120 seem to be the most popular high end air coolers for quads these days, each should see you with a fairly decent overclock... hardware permitting of course..

its a very similar size to the Ninja. Its a fair bit lighter though and so doesnt stress the board too much.

    I have fitted them on:
    - IP35 Pro's
    - iX38 QuadGts
    - IP35-E's

    never had a fitting issue.
