Failing HDD, memory or something else?

lastnight and this morning my pc was fine and dandy and left it running all day, now tonight it's playing up a bit. just a few of the things i've come accross,

    1. tried running autoroute, loaded up (albeit a tad slower than normal) ok but as soon as i went to find a location it crashed and shutdown. now this hasn't happened before.

    2. programmes seem to be running with a delay in them, it's like you start something and it runs in slo-mo.

    3. went to print a map on multi-map via firefox, now just to check the print would all be on there checked print preview and nothing was being displayed except blank pages.

now as title suggests could it be the start of the hdd failing or a memory issue (the slowness/sluggishness of programmes might explain that) or something else? it has stumped me, done the usual ccleaner/ad-aware/avg etc etc but nothing untoward came up.

any help is gratefully received as i can't find my windows dick at the mo so a re-install/repair would be a problem.

It could be the ram, try Memtest

It could be the hd, try HD Tune, do an error scan. Or try Seagate Technology - SeaTools

TBH it does sound like a virus, malware, etc, but you said you have scanned for those. Have you tried playing a game, and seeing what happens?

Re: Failing HDD, memory or something else?

i would first run some better scanners such as
    SUPERAntiSpyware.com - AntiAdware, AntiSpyware, AntiMalware!
    and drweb cure it

also run Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool
let it do a few runs
