FWIW, HDD is ok if you don't really intend to edit the video afterwards. HDD uses very high level compression to squash so much on to the drive, and editing would squash it even further.
just so you know.
Also its good to have a budget in mind as you can spend as much as you like on this stuff.
Around £300 max. What about the SD card Camcorders? Any good?

i've got an SD card camcorder the Panasonic SV-AV100 - I really like it. there are newer ones out now - mine is quite old so I would be looking at the Panansonic or JVC ones for this type.
Mine is tiny, takes really good films in decent light. In low light it is not so good so you will need to factor this in depending on use.
Also you may want to ask yopurself if you need swapabble lenses for say wide angle work or high zooms.
A good place to start is here: SimplyDV: Camcorder Reviews, News and Information or

Thanks for the info mate
I have a Sony DCR-PC120E Handycam which is exceptionally good and very expensive, at least I thought so, at well over £1200.00p. I also have a Sony Cyber-Shot 10.1 Mega-pixel digital camera, which is a SD camera and is very good indeed.
In fact I tend to use the Cyber-shot much more that the PC120, what-you-see-is what-you-get with the Cyber-shot. I did my Daughter's birthday and my son's wedding with it and the results are very good. Also with the Cyber-shot you do not have to connect the camera to the PC, just shove in the SD Card and away you go. And you can just stick the camera into your pocket. It has touch-screen controls as well.
Try this for a look:
