Fuji finepix s5000
just wondering about this one - have been musing over new camera for a while now since my old SLR packed up and died on me but not entirely convinced by digital as such...dad and bro have the fuji 602 (each - so, loads of weeks of pocket money for bro and a mere snip for my dad...!) and I'm impressed by the quality but never really handled them or had much of a go at all.
pros; can plug into computer etc. and you see instantly what you've just taken so more 'versitile' in terms of just getting what you want etc.
cons; if you're not near a computer better have a huge memory card and batteries...I'm not made of money so this is an important consideration...
i could argue it either way, just wondering if anything or anyone could convince me yes/no...its ok at £250 i recon
thoughts please

Well in my limited experience of cameras:
My Fuji Finepix 2800zoom 2MP had better image quality than my new Pentax Optio S4 4MP which cost a bomb. Fuji make fantastic cameras imo :) Especially if you're after image quality.

umm this thread should really be in GH not bargain hunt
-
I sell the Fuji Finepix S5000 and it's not that great of a camera... image quality leaves something to be desired. Overall the fuji's are entry level camera's... you can get a better one.

I've got a 6900z - the 602's forerunner.
Pro's - not so much that you can see your pic instantly on a PC but that you can see it instantly on the back of the camera so that you know if you got what you wanted & can take another if you didn't.
Budget on buying a second set of batteries (but iirc doesn't the 5000 take cheap standard size batteries rather than the expensive propriety ones in the 6900?).
Depending on what resolution & format you store your photos in you can get 100's of photos in a 128 or 256Mb card - 512 would be even better ;)
& remember that you only store what you want to keep - the duffers you delete there & then.
If you can buy a new 602Z for not much more than an S5000 I would get that instead.
My next digicam :D

right then...I'm going to save up the pennies straight away!!
and going to go down to local camera shop and have a good old look at it...

I don't really know what specs you want, eg a big zoom, lots of megapixels etc. But for around the same price and the same specs this olympus http://www.olympus.co.uk/consumer/di...740+ULTRA+ZOOM is pretty nice, its around £230 on the sites i have seen. Ther are loads of alternatives just have a look around the web and you,ll probably find what you want.
-
yeah, can't decide between going digital or getting decent SLR...
-
Find somewhere to import the EOS 300D ("Digital Rebel") and have both ;)
-
Just wondering has anyone used the Fuji A203 or A205 and also does anyone know of a good website that reviews digital cameras?.
Thanks for any help :)
-
hmmm...good thinking stoo...
you know of anywhere? I took a look at the Nikon D100, not their top of the range digital but it sure cuts the mustard...
I should hope so too at £1500!! (mind you that was jessops where its guarenteed to be marked up somewhat...thinking along same lines of PC World - mind you at least these people know what they're talking about I suppose...)
