Asus A7N8X Deluxe XP3200+ Support?

I've currently got a Asus A7N8X REV 1.xx Board.. I am aware that the Rev 2.xx boards support 400 FSB but as I've just flashed my BIOS do ya think my board will support up to this speed?

In the BIOS it does say that the FSB can be clocked up to 300 (Thoretical 600 FSB) but I just wanna make sure b4 I buy a 3200+ chip..

Not sure, i do have the rev2, and, i think i read that its pot luck if it works or not.

With the latest BIOS update for a rev1.XX, it will support 400MHz FSB.

If you check here it'll tell you - was checking before cos Im just putting a system together with an A7N8X del.

You need board revision 1.04 or later just in case you don't want to ratch through

i have a a7n8x rev 1.04 and i can run the fsb at 200 easy on eithe bios 1.04 or 1.07

I downloaded and applied the latest BIOS, its 1007.

As I said in the Bios it gives me the option of 200FSB, this to seems to imply that the mainboard will run a CPU at this FSB therefore allowing me to install a 3200+.

I have read elsewhere in some other forums that there may be some slight differences in physical terms (ie capacitors etc) between Rev 1.xx and Rev 2.xx boards, that is why I'm being so carefull bout things.

Thanks for all the replies so far.. I'm really tryin to avoid spendin £150 on a CPU that will not run as fast as it should. You guys are helpin me stop making this mistake.. cheers

no, only the v2.0 is ultra 400 certified, but the 1.0x will run at 400, it's just not absolutely guaranteed

Perhaps the new bios slows certain timings on earlier boards to allow the earlier revisions to reach the 400fsb. It would allow asus to extend cpu support....

if anyone wanted to find out then just bench ur mem, flash the bios to latest and bench again at same speeds.

How high can u get the fsb at the moment chandler? that would seem to be the only way of proving the matter...

The FSB options in the BIOS go up to 300 DDR (600), so running 200DDR (400FSB) should be ok.. I'm still a bit dubious though.

Emailed ASUS last night bout this.. hopefully I'll have an answer soon..

I'll let you guys know what the solution is.

mine wont do over 185

I got PC3500 from David just to try it......knocked the multiplier right down too, just to be sure wasn't a limited CPU....nope....over 185 was flaky and over 190 was no go at all

Just got an answer from ASUS technical support..

"your motherboard can support 400mhz xp upto 3200+ ,
but you need decrease ram speed to DDR333 to keep system stable ."

That sucks.. would you guys say that reducing the speed of the RAM to 333 would be noticable.
Preferably I would like to run both FSB and Memory settings at 400..
Do you reckon I could overclock the memory?

nothing....NOTHING.... N O T H I N G worse than instability.

Cant see a main benefit to having the FSB and core speed being so high if the bandwidth from the memory isn't happening altho I await flaming for that statement

Spend some time on other things, like tweaking your vid card, or Cas timings on the mem at 333...might produce better results.

Tried overclocking my current 2100+. ASUS are right.. I can't have a FSB and Memory speed of 400 each.. it just blue screens before windows loads fully..

It'll work with a FSB of 197 though.. DDR dual channel @ 394.6Mhz..
Internal clock of 2071.88Mhz.. Seems like the board will take the FSB of 400.. I'll just have to mess about with the latency etc of the memory like Zak has pointed out..
