reaching up 63-70 degrees celsius temp!

i've just finished installing my new hardwares - core2quad 2.4GHz, PSU AcBel 800watts, XFX GF8800GT 512 VGA... i am running my quad with it's stock fan.

i am worried about the values i've got from intel thermal analysis tool... my CPU temp reach 63-70degrees celcius even in idle mode... or even having one application running

can you please tell me how i can make it lower? say 47? because b4, i am just using core2duo 2.13GHz OC to 3GHz, 500watts PSU and 7600GS VGA and i used also the stock fan for the CPU but i managed to have 57 degrees celsius on stressed test and 35-45 idle... thanks

2. Is the BIOS up to date on your motherboard as updates often recalibrate the temp sensors?

3. What your airflow like?

4. Whats your cable management like?

5. Can you link that PSU (bad ones often increase temps dramatically) as i havent heard of that?

It's a been a long time since I gave anyone any tech advice on here. I'm a bit behind the times, but i'll have ago any way

Is it a new Quad or a 2nd hand CPU? The original quads run a fair bit warmer than the newer ones do. And C2D's run even cooler still. Either way it's still to high for my liking and yours.

I'd say to replace the stock fan is a no brainer, although you could try reseating the HS, maybe it's not quite on correctly, this would cause a higher temp reading.

Are the temps for all 4 cores roughly the same or is there a big difference between them? Use a program called core temp to find this out.

What is you case cooling like?

Over all though, you are used to running a C2D which run a lot cooler than quads do. Spend a few quid on a decent aftermarket cooler and those temps will drop np. I'm using a big 120mm fan cooler on my quad and it's and early quad, one of the warmer ones and it idles at 35c load hits around 55c.

I didnt find that.
There really isnt much in it tbh. I do have decent cooling though. Even with the stock HS/Fan, it still shouldnt be at those temps.

1. not yet. i just tried coretemp, TAT and orthoz.
2. my bios is F11 and yeah it is updated.
3. airflow? i have 120mm fan, at the back of my case, small fan in front (those are the additional fans i have) not to mention of course the fans that came along with the PSU, CPU and VGA.
4. my cabling is nice as i may say... sorry if i dont have a pix for now...

i'll post it here to make everything easier to understand... (sorry for my laziness though) peace!

i keep saying it in loads of threads, but yea it could be something as simple as the HSF isn't seated properly. have a feel to see if it is secure.

1. It's a brand new Core2Quad fresh from the box. When you said "original" what exactly do you mean by that? coz' nowadays most of the products are made in china. if i bought quad made in china does it count as an original quad?

2. good suggestion about the HSF, i will certainly look at it. It gaves me a hard time to reli push and fix the HSF on my mobo (GA965P-DQ6) coz' i can't hardly see the pins. you think it will be more easier if i remove the mobo and fix the CPU+HSF b4 i reseat it back?

3. well... CPU 1 & 2 = 63-70 degreess C while CPU 3 & 4 = 55 - 59. Still it's higher for my taste.

i will see if reseating my HSF will give a good result... if not, i guess i have to replaced my stock fan.

^ im assuming trash man means the stepping, which means essentially if they've improved from the original design. originally the q6600 was B3, then changed to G0. if you bought it recent, it will probably be the newer one.

look carefully and see if the pins are flush against there settings...but im not sure if u take it off totally, you can put it on again, without using new paste? u'd have to find that out...coz i've never done that.

i assume once u take it off, u gotta clean off the stock paste and apply some new one. maybe someone can answer that.

Is that running 2 x Orthos using affinity to load all 4 cores? If the heatsink is correctly fitted it really shouldn't vary by more than 3-5C under Orthos, ie. If 0+1 are 70C then 2+3 should be 65-70.
