HSF question...

hello every1!
is it safe to use the stock fan of my core2duo to my core2quad CPU? coz' i just want to test if the stock fan of core2quad is defective so that i can return it right away to avail of warranty.
coz' right now i am having a very high temp and i suspected the HSF.

I haven't compared the ratings on both so can't say for sure. It would certainly be safer to test the potentially faulty HSF from the quad on the duo: 1) Duo shouldn't get as hot as the quad on stock, 2) The duo is cheaper so better off destroying that by mistake.

I wouldn't recommend that. As Bugbait says rather use your C2D heatsink on the C2D and record the temps then use the C2Q cooler on there and see if the results are worse. The C2Q cooler should perform slightly better than the C2D heatsink on the C2D CPU.

I've always preferred to use after market heatsinks but then I enjoy overclocking

Also as always with the stock HSFs, ensure that it is firmly fixed and flush against the CPU. The push pins are a damn nuisance!!

Remember if you are mucking around removing and replacing the HSF always clean off the thermal paste and andd new thermal paste before re-seating

100% true! i can't reli tell why intel can develop and produce a great chip but can't produce a good stock fan! i bet "they" let others (HSF manufacturers) do the work for them... i wish they will upgrade it the next time around...
