    power supplies... noooooo...

    no it hasn't blown, but i'm about to...


    so, evening all. i really hope you lot know what you're talking about, i have a little problem that needs solving.

    i've been searching around for a new power supply and up until a few days ago would have settled on an antec trueblue 480w. ah, if only technology was simple...


    after enquiring in a few forums, i was told antec, fortron, globalwin etc were best... looking at the amps for the rails on the antec they don't seem too bad, i've never heard any complaints about loud noises or blown pcs...

    then i'm recommended an enermax cos apparently having 33a on the +12v line is a good thing.

    then someone tells me an antec nearly killed them so don't go near them, enermaxs are made for us voltages and the european 230v mess them up when you start oc'ing, and get one made by hiper even though it's only got 18a on the 12v cos it's the 3 and 5 that run the most important things...

    but of course "that's rubbish because nowadays most things use the 12v line to power the cpu"...

    and hiper's have a strange clicking noise and are made of cheap components "no they don't/aren't"...



    anyone like to clear things up for me? i'm on the verge of placing a bag of sugar in their and letting the glucose power everything.


    at least most people aggree that DEER who make my current psu are a load of bol;'..

    I have an Enermax - they have slightly weak 5V lines sometimes, but they're still pretty good.

    Antec are great too - though what all that stuff about US and UK voltages was I don't know. Wave rectification can't have too big an affect on them.

    Just don't get a Q-Tec!

    antec or enermax choose which ever sounds best as they are the top 2 choices ,i fyou want an antec 480tb then get 1 you wont be disapointed

    Daz_UK: Read these forums for long enough and you'll find out...

    Basically:

    A. They don't provide the power they claim too.
    B. The "higher output" ones like blowing up.

    There are only a couple of people on here who would probably be able to give you 'real' technical reasons why to choose one over the other.

    Most people on here give opinions based on personal experiences or, the option I prefer, word of mouth. If 99 out of 100 people you spoke to said Antec and Enermax are the best for PSU's why would you need anything more technical?

    If you buy it and it's not to your liking you can always return it/replace it... But I wouldn't of thought you'd need to do that with one of these as I've heard planty of positive experiences and very few (if any) negative ones.

    aye, well, i'd have an antec already if it wasn't for the fact i can only recieve mail from the royal mail while living at uni. but with the conversations i've had today, it just makes that look like a very minor technicality...
