thanks man! is there any maximum time for a hardware (say videocard) to avail the RMA? coz' i am planning to test it for a month then if i am certain what hardware is faulty i will go with RMA.

well... i reseat it twice already and still no improvement. but yes, i'll give it a try again and hope it will work... thanks

P.S. a very noob question... i can fix the HSF on any orientation right? because it is square and typical? because sometimes i need to force it a little to fit in properly on my mobo.

Re: need help... still reaching 60-67 degrees temp!

AFAICS the fan is symmetrical. The pushpins do require a bit of force. BTW do not apply a "thik" layer of paste. AS recommend a thin line down the middle and then twisting the HSF from side to side before securing it, although applying a thin layer with a plastic card appears to work as well.

Be very careful before listening to soul-edge, he has a thing about Intel and his advice is suspect at best. Your CPU will not be throttling due to hitting ~60C.

The three programs you named are memory hogs. Are you saying that, in an otherwise unchanged system, the Quad is much slower than the Dual Core? Or have you made other changes?

Re: need help... still reaching 60-67 degrees temp!

Ok seriously now these temperatures are NOT high. If you have limited airflow temps can easily get above yours.

Look at these temp for a DUAL core>

There are only 2 cores to cool down and the Intel HSF hits temps as high as 56C. You have a quad core deal with the extra temperature, 60C at load is absolutely normal for your CPU so if its higher than you like buy one of the coolers in the image that performs more to your liking!

As for your system restarting myself and others have listed other alternatives you have yet to explore... I doubt its the CPU because its performance is well within specification and orthos gives no errors.

It could easily be your memory, motherboard or graphics card all of which I have yet to see you test. Please stop going on about your CPU as it is perfectly fine!

thanks man! plastic card? does it reli do the trick? that's new... (for me i guess)
for the core2quad vs. core2duo, this is on my personal experience only... i can say that core2duo 2.13overclocked to 3GHz running with stock fan, 500watts apex PSU, gigabyte 7600GS 512MB is better than my current hardwares... (those are the three items that i changed only)

i reli don't know why and it doesn't make sense either... coz' core2quad SHLD. be better than core2duo. IT IS FASTER THAT'S TRUE... BUT BETTER? i don't agree. coz' it freeze a lot. while core2duo... my pc is running smoothly even in CRYSIS with medium settings.

thanks man. you gave me a peace of mind for this! i reli thought it was THAT high bec. i am used of seing my previous cpu on a 37 degrees C. and i checked my pc at the office which is core2quad also (dell xps710) it is running at 37 degrees c at idle and reaching 42 at load.

Re: need help... still reaching 60-67 degrees temp!

Intel processors do not throttle at 38C! The exact temperature varies from processor to processor - the critical temperature is the junction temperature (internal temperature) and throttlong starts at (typically) about 90C. Case temperature will then be at about 75C. Both these are way above the temperatures measured by the OPs software - even allowing for inaccuracies in that software.

As for heat sink compound - that shoudl be applied as thinly as possible - its only purpose is to fill the microscopic voids in the two metal surfaces. Too much compound increase the thermal resistance, rather than decreasing it. (which is why it is important to clean off the old stuff first when reseating a heatsink.)

As other have said, the temps are fine - the problem lies elswhere in the system, either misconfiguration or a faulty component. RAM would be the first thing to test. Use memtest 86+ Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

Everyone just ignore soul-edge... now he is getting a little loony! At first some of what he said was almost plausible and generally lite hearted but it seems he really has a chip on his shoulder about Intel.

Tiss a shame to limit yourself like that but hey its your life, ignorance is bliss right?

***soul-edge*** - you are very close to losing your access again, because to be blunt, you're talking bull and you're not even being polite about it.

I am honestly unsure if you're trolling these forums or not, or if these are things you actually believe. If you belive what you're actually saying, I strongly suggest you stick around to read what others like Peterb are saying and learn from them.

Soul Edge - to give you the benefit of the doubt, you may have made a typo - but 38C is hunman body temperature - it isn't even warm in semi-conductor terms. If you meant to type 88C. that would be nearer the mark, but if Intel or any other processor started throttling at that low temperature, no computer would ever run at its full potential!

lol you are persistent. Either you truly believe what you say or your determined to rattle someone just for the hell of it.

With the validity of your info and lack of source or proof my money is on annoyance. If you did receive this email from Intel then why can't you reproduce it? Temps in excess of 80C are quite normal in silicon technology.

It's true that the hotter a CPU gets the less efficient it gets due to energy loss through heat, conservation of energy law. But this is by no means throttling and it doesn't effect performance because they are designed for high temperature work and all the factors are included in the equation when the CPU's are designed. CPU's are specifically designed for a thermal envelope that proceeds up to 90C and even further sometimes so temps are not a performance bottleneck.
