Re: The 1TB Sammy F1 Thread

SiM - I know this is a Sammy F1 thread, but as a point of reference my Seagate 1tb 7200.11 drive (which I bought as replacement after my samsung f1 drive died in its first week of use), gets the following in hdtach

and the samsungs are meant to be a little bit faster

To be honest the average read speed of the seagate 1tb isnt far off what I get on my now 2 year old 80gbx2 raid array....

    My Seagate > Your Seagate

There is hardly no speed difference between seagate and samsung tbh... I prefer the seagate because its probably more reliable (although mine might be dying on me soon)

LOL, average read speed and burst, yes, access time and cpu useage no Probably doesnt help that its almost full as well

Would be intersting to see how many people have had good and bad expereinces with these samsung drives, as at their current price they must be selling like hotcakes.....hell I know its the reason I originally bought one, and they werent as cheap as they are now

Why do you think your seagate might be dying?

edit* my current old and tired raid array gets this -

Note the average read speed - the terabyte drives manage pretty much that on their own now and at under £100 storage space is not an issue anymore

CPU is high because of background processes and I was using single core. That's probably why the access time is to high too...

SiM - may I ask if your seagate starts with an audable 'click noise' (and makes the same noise at shut down)? my samsung didnt do it, and my seagate seems to do it only once at start and once at shutdown....wondering if its the head parking...?

Re: The 1TB Sammy F1 Thread

No noticeable click, but my system is quite noisy anyway and I have 5 hdds connected so it would be hard to tell... I'll listen out for you next time I restart
